However, there&#8217;s a small obstacle in \u2062her way: Governor Ron DeSantis \u2062of Florida, who finished ahead of her in the Iowa caucuses.<\/p>\n<h3>ELECTION 2024: FOLLOW LATEST COVERAGE<\/h3>\n<p>Candidates have always claimed that there are three tickets \u200cout of \u2062Iowa, but Haley&#8217;s version is \u200cmore like Eddie Money&#8217;s &#8220;Two Tickets to Paradise.&#8221; She \u2063refuses to appear on a debate stage without Trump, even though she failed to surpass DeSantis in the race.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve had five incredible \u2063debates in this \u2063campaign,&#8221; Haley \u200dstated as she returned to the campaign trail in New Hampshire. &#8220;Unfortunately, \u2062Donald Trump\u2064 has avoided \u2064all of them. She consistently ranks \u200bsecond behind Trump, while DeSantis is polling at 6.5% \u2062in the RealClearPolitics average, trailing former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, \u2064who has already \u200bdropped out.<\/p>\n<p>If Haley can gain momentum from New Hampshire, where independent voters can boost her candidacy, \u2063she will have over a month to campaign in her home state of South Carolina. \u200cHaley is also in second place there, comfortably ahead of \u200bDeSantis.<\/p>\n<p>However,\u2062 much of this strategy \u200dhas little to do with DeSantis himself. Haley\u200d is attempting to entice Trump into a debate, hoping that\u2062 if the \u2062race goes on for a month with both\u200b of them splitting\u2064 the first nominating \u2064contests, it will be difficult for him to avoid the stage.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, Haley likely needs DeSantis to \u2063stay\u2064 in \u200dthe race at least until after\u2062 New Hampshire. \u2063Otherwise, many of his voters may \u200bflock to Trump in a must-win \u200cstate, especially after the\u2064 former \u200bpresident presumably gained support\u2064 from entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.\u2063 Haley is set to inherit Christie&#8217;s supporters.<\/p>\n<p>If all goes according to \u200cplan, Haley will only have \u200dto deal\u2062 with the contradiction of being a third-place candidate in a two-person race for about a \u200bweek before she can showcase a better performance to support her case.<\/p>\n<p>Haley&#8217;s performance in Iowa was much better\u200c than John McCain&#8217;s in 2000. The late Arizona senator won less than 5%\u2063 of the vote and \u200bfinished behind evangelical activist Gary\u200c Bauer. However, he\u200d went on to \u200bdefeat George W. Bush by 18 points in New Hampshire. McCain improved in Iowa in 2008, although he still received a lower share of the vote than Haley did on Monday night. He had a closer race in New \u2064Hampshire against a former Massachusetts governor but ultimately secured the nomination.<\/p>\n<p>However, all of this puts pressure on Haley to win\u200b in\u2062 New\u200d Hampshire and South Carolina.
