On Saturday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/01\/13\/us\/politics\/nikki-haley-democrats-independents.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The New York Times<\/a> noted how these voters seem to be \u201cdrawn to Ms. Haley because they see her as a more moderate Republican candidate\u201d and how\u00a0\u201csome Democratic voters said they preferred her even over Mr. Biden.\u201d <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2024\/01\/14\/democrats-boost-haley-iowa-trump-desantis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Axios<\/a> \u2014 another left-wing publication \u2014 ran a similar article the following day highlighting Democrats\u2019 plans to \u201ccrash the state\u2019s Republican caucuses Monday night.\u201d Democrats sought to \u201cbecome \u2018Republicans for a day\u2019 to vote for\u00a0Nikki Haley\u00a0\u2014 but mostly, against\u00a0former President Trump,\u201d according to the outlet. <\/p>\n<p>Similarly, in New Hampshire, some operatives are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/news\/other\/the-plan-to-get-new-hampshire-liberals-to-vote-for-nikki-haley\/ar-AA1mv4W8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">trying<\/a> to get Democrat-leaning unaffiliated voters to cast their ballots for Haley in the Granite State\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Primary_elections_in_New_Hampshire\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">semi-closed primary<\/a> on Jan. 23. The tactic reflects a strategy Haley herself <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/news\/other\/the-plan-to-get-new-hampshire-liberals-to-vote-for-nikki-haley\/ar-AA1mv4W8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">bragged<\/a> about when she told reporters last month: \u201cIf we get independents, if we get conservative Democrats, that\u2019s what the Republican Party should pursue. Our goal is to get as many people in the tent as we can.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Flooding a Republican primary with Democrat votes is the same tactic former Rep. Liz Cheney and her backers attempted in an <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/08\/18\/analysis-if-not-for-democrat-voters-cheneys-loss-would-have-been-even-more-devastating\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">unsuccessful<\/a> bid to defend her seat in Congress from primary challenger Harriet Hageman in 2022. <\/p>\n<p>Further, tonight\u2019s failed effort to propel Haley forward isn\u2019t the first time Democrats have interfered in Iowa. The Democratic National Committee (DNC) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2020\/12\/12\/iowa-caucus-dnc-report-444649\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">meddled<\/a> in the 2020 Iowa Democrat caucus, which \u2014 \u201ccombined with missteps by the state Democratic Party\u201d \u2014 resulted in delayed and questionable election results. <\/p>\n<p>A December 2020 audit of the election later found that when \u201cthe DNC\u2019s database conversion tool failed to work correctly, it caused the DNC to wrongly stop the [Iowa Democrat Party] from reporting its results, and the IDP\u2019s entire planned reporting process was thrown into disarray.\u201d The DNC\u2019s interference in the process was ultimately determined to be \u201cthe catalyst for the resulting chaos in the boiler room and in the IDP\u2019s attempts to manually collect and confirm caucus results by hand.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf the DNC had not interjected itself into the results reporting process based on its erroneous data conversion, caucus night could conceivably have proceeded according to the IDP\u2019s initial plan,\u201d the report reads. <\/p>\n<p>While then-candidate Pete Buttigieg was eventually <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/election\/2020\/primaries-caucuses\/state\/iowa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">declared<\/a> the winner, the chaos orchestrated by the DNC and state party angered supporters of Sen. Bernie Sanders, who finished a close second. As The Federalist\u2019s Tristan Justice previously <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2020\/02\/04\/democratic-party-withholds-results-of-iowa-caucuses-citing-tech-errors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">noted<\/a> at the time, the horribly-run caucus was not the first in which the Vermont senator\u2019s presidential aspirations were seemingly kneecapped by Democrat Party heads. During Iowa\u2019s 2016 Democrat caucus, Sanders was \u201cshorted delegates in areas that favored the Vermont senator over former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Such shady tactics have since continued into 2024 in an obvious attempt to boost President Joe Biden. In February 2023, the DNC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/dnc-passes-new-primary-calendar-making-south-carolina-first-and-kicking-out-iowa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">passed<\/a> a new 2024 presidential primary calendar that made South Carolina the first state on the Democrat primary schedule. While Iowa and New Hampshire have historically marked the first electoral contests in the presidential primary process for both major political parties, the DNC\u2019s decision to schedule South Carolina first was, as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2024-election\/new-hampshire-attorney-general-accuses-dnc-voter-suppression-rcna132945\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NBC News described<\/a>, due to Iowa\u2019s caucuses being viewed as \u201ctoo white and too undemocratic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s worth mentioning that Biden \u2014 who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/2024-election-south-carolina-democrats-first-primary-joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">supported<\/a> the decision \u2014\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2024-election\/new-hampshire-attorney-general-accuses-dnc-voter-suppression-rcna132945\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">lost<\/a>\u00a0both Iowa and New Hampshire in the 2020 Democrat primary, finishing fourth and fifth, respectively. It was his\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2020-primary-elections\/south-carolina-results\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dominating victory<\/a>\u00a0in South Carolina\u2019s primary that put Biden on track to become Democrats\u2019 presidential nominee.<\/p>\n<p>Most recently, the office of New Hampshire\u2019s attorney general <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/01\/10\/the-dnc-is-engaged-in-unlawful-voter-suppression-ahead-of-primaries-new-hampshire-ag-says\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">issued<\/a> a cease-and-desist order to the DNC after the organization purportedly violated the state\u2019s voter suppression laws ahead of New Hampshire\u2019s scheduled Jan. 23 primaries. <\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>   Shawn Fleetwood is a staff writer for The Federalist and a graduate of the University of Mary Washington.
