Witthoeft participated in a nightly vigil outside the Washington,\u200d D.C. jail where\u2064 many January 6 defendants \u2064are being held.<\/h2>\n<p><b>DW:<\/b> Why are \u2064you here this evening?<\/p>\n<p><b>Witthoeft:<\/b> I\u2019m here because the government murdered my daughter three years \u200bago. \u2063I think she deserves an\u200b investigation into \u200cher death. And I think the men inside deserve \u200cfair and accurate sentences \u2063and not the overreach we\u2019re seeing.<\/p>\n<p><b>DW:<\/b> \u2063So \u200dit\u2019s not just\u200c one person. It\u2019s about\u2063 everybody who\u2019s\u200b been\u200c incarcerated?<\/p>\n<p><b>Witthoeft:<\/b> It is about the unfair treatment and the violation of people\u2019s constitutional rights. I very\u200c much think Ashli\u2019s rights were violated.\u2062 She served this country\u2064 four times in the \u200bMiddle East, she was\u200b deployed four times \u200dto come home and \u200cgo \u2064to \u2063a \u201cStop the Steal\u201d rally and to come home in a box is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/nihs-silence-on-fauci-aide-extremely-concerning-congress-threatens-subpoena\/\" title=\"Congress is alarmed by NIH's silence on Fauci aide, threatens subpoena.\">completely\u2063 unacceptable<\/a>. And then \u2063to have your government throw you\u2064 away \u2063like\u200d you\u2019re a disposable human \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/13-gop-lawmakers-join-letter-demanding-alexandria-ocasio-cortez-apologize-to-ted-cruz-over-attempted-murder-allegation\/\" title=\"13 GOP Lawmakers Join Letter Demanding Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Apologize To Ted Cruz Over \u2018Attempted Murder\u2019 Allegation\">completely unacceptable<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><b>DW:<\/b> How many nights have you\u200d been here at the vigil outside the D.C. jail?<\/p>\n<p><b>Witthoeft:<\/b> Probably \u200babout 520 now.<\/p>\n<p><b>DW:<\/b> How aware do you think \u200dthe guys\u200c on \u2062the inside are of what you\u2019re\u2063 doing out here? And do you think \u2064that\u200c the demonstrations that you\u2019re \u200bdoing every night, and\u200d speaking with them, of course, gives them\u2062 hope?\u200c Or how does it\u2064 make them feel?<\/p>\n<p><b>Witthoeft:<\/b> It gives\u200c them\u200c a\u200c voice to the outside. When we first\u200c got here, they didn\u2019t have visitation, \u2064they were\u2064 being horribly\u2064 treated by some of the \u200bguards and their\u200c treatment has\u2064 improved. \u200dThey\u2063 do have visitation now. And some of these people on \u201cFreedom\u200d Corner\u201d \u200c [at the vigil] will be their visitors on Friday. Some of them have\u2063 family\u2064 that can\u2019t make it all the way across the country, especially not every\u2064 week.\u2062 So, we\u2063 go sit in a big room across from each other\u2062 and fill up\u2064 the visitation room. So I think that\u2019s been a blessing. There\u2019s\u2063 a constant \u2063in and out of people here because they come\u2062 here before they go\u200c to trial. And then they \u2062stay here until\u2062 they\u2019re sentenced, then \u2063they leave\u2063 and then there\u2019s a constant flow of people \u2014 because people \u2063continue to get arrested to this day behind\u2062 the\u200c events of January 6.<\/p>\n<p><b>DW:<\/b> What kind of reforms are you looking for moving forward?<\/p>\n<p><b>Witthoeft:<\/b> Well, I think what has become clear to mainstream America,\u2063 and\u2062 shame on us for not realizing it \u2064sooner, but we \u2063have a lot of these guys \u2014 it\u2019s their \u2063first bout with the law. Not all of them, but most \u200dof them. This is mainstream America you have behind the walls of this jail. I mean, there\u200c are \u2063some people in \u200bthis movement that are for them. But I think \u2062it would deter a\u2063 proper \u2063investigation into the events of\u200c that day. I think if you blanket pardoned people and \u200dthen\u200b their problem goes away, there\u2019ll be less people\u200c pushing forward to find out exactly what\u2063 happened that day.<\/p>\n<p><b>DW:<\/b> It would be \u200btoo\u200d easy an answer?<\/p>\n<p><b>Witthoeft:<\/b> Well, I think it\u200d would allow \u200cthe government to just shelve it.<\/p>\n<p><b>DW:<\/b> \u200c Do you think, \u2062under the\u200c current administration, that might happen? Are you hoping that now that it\u2019s an election year, \u200dwhoever gets elected \u2014 because it is ultimately \u200bthe Justice Department that\u2019s \u200bin charge \u2014 do you \u200bhope that whoever comes in or if President Joe Biden himself [gets a second term], hears your message\u2062 and institutes the kind of changing and looking for?<\/p>\n<p><b>Witthoeft:<\/b> Biden himself is\u200c never \u2064going \u200bto listen to my message. I think, not disrespectfully to Biden\u200b \u2014 although I don\u2019t have any respect for Biden \u2014 \u2063but\u200c what I say is not out of disrespect, it\u2019s \u200dout of what I see from him. I don\u2019t think he\u2019s\u2064 competent to\u200b run this country. I think he\u2019s very much addle-minded and in his \u200csenior \u2064decline. I \u2063mean, you know\u2062 it\u2019s just <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bill-taking-aim-at-amazon-warehouse-production-quotas-passes-california-senate\/\" title=\"Bill Taking Aim At Amazon Warehouse Production Quotas Passes California Senate\">human fact<\/a> that\u200b at a certain point, you\u2019re at \u200cyour peak and then you\u2019re not anymore. And\u200b I think he\u2019s very much not anymore. I\u2063 don\u2019t think he has the capacity for the \u200cintricate \u200dsituations that\u2062 arise in this country. I don\u2019t think he\u2019s a good leader at this point.<\/p>\n<p><b>DW:<\/b> What do you think your daughter\u200c would\u2063 say\u200d at this point in time, \u200cif she were here?<\/p>\n<p><b>Witthoeft:<\/b> Well,\u200c she would\u200b be very \u2063upset \u2064at the state of this\u200c country as \u2063I think many Americans are. My daughter was brave and bold.\u200c And the reason I\u2019m here \u2064is because I believe she would be \u200chere. So that\u2019s \u200bmy feeling that I believe she\u2063 would be right here pushing for\u200b justice and the reinstatement of \u2064people\u2019s Constitutional rights. And the thing about \u200cJanuary \u20636 \u200bis, not only did they kill my child, but they took\u2064 away my \u2063belief and some of the\u2062 things I held true \u2026 about \u200cthis country, like equitable\u200b justice and fairness,\u200c and, just some things you hold to be true and are not.<\/p>\n<p>Because now, I now believe,\u2064 without putting \u2064on a tinfoil hat, the corruption goes to \u2063the top. I absolutely do. And I \u200cbelieve we\u2019re in\u200b the beginnings of a police state. When you have cameras watching your every \u200dmove, when you have people tracking\u200c your phone, you \u2063have \u2063the Patriot Act,\u2063 you have\u200b the 702 [Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act]. Now, they need even less permission to infringe on American rights. I think that that\u2019s a \u200dproblem.<\/p>\n<p><b>DW:<\/b> What do you want to be done now? We\u2019re almost three years \u200cto the day? What would\u200d you like to see?<\/p>\n<p><b>Witthoeft:<\/b> I think, you know, the release of some of the footage is going to \u200bbe \u2063semi-helpful, but it\u2019s also slow \u2062rolled and watered\u2062 down\u2063 and mediocre.<\/p>\n<p><b>DW:<\/b> Is that because they\u2019re blurring the\u200b faces\u2063 or there just isn\u2019t \u2063enough of it? [As part of the rolling disclosure by the GOP-led House.]\n<p><b>Witthoeft:<\/b> They\u2019re just not releasing enough of it, quick enough. And\u2064 I don\u2019t think anybody\u2019s\u200b face should be\u200b blurred out. I really don\u2019t. I \u200dthink if we\u2019re gonna <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/d-c-mayor-congress-must-open-a-probe-into-security-failures-at-u-s-capitol\/\" title=\"D.C. Mayor: Congress must open a probe into security failures at U.S. Capitol\">hold people accountable<\/a>, let\u2019s hold people accountable. And I think\u2064 that you went in such\u200d an unprecedented event where you have so\u200b many people charged from the same day for a\u2063 lot of the same crimes, to\u200c have the people that were charged be the ones \u200dsaying, \u201cRelease the video, let\u2019s see it, let\u2019s see it,\u201d which we have been doing for three years, and \u200bthe government is the entity that doesn\u2019t want \u2063it released. I think that should tell us\u200d all we \u2063need to know, as American citizens, that the government has something to hide. I think that\u2019s pretty,\u2063 pretty obvious.<\/p>\n<p><b>DW:<\/b> Is\u2062 there anything else you\u2019d like to see?<\/p>\n<p><b>Witthoeft:<\/b> I would like to see an investigation into the entire day. I want to\u200b know\u200d who did what \u2026 I think\u2062 if we\u2019re gonna\u2062 hold our\u200c American people accountable, we need to\u2063 hold everybody accountable.<\/p>\n<p><b>DW:<\/b> By \u2062what mechanism \u2063do you think that\u200b would need to be done? Because you\u2019ve had the January 6 Committee. You\u2019ve had some Republicans do\u200d their own counter-investigation.<\/p>\n<p><b>Witthoeft:<\/b> Well, that\u2019s a good question and I wish I\u2063 had those\u200b answers. You know, all I know to do is to continue pounding on doors. To continue contacting your local representatives. To\u200b show up to vote\u200d even if you \u2062don\u2019t have full faith\u200d in the system, to not sit back and wait \u2062for Donald Trump to ride in and save the \u2062day because he\u2019s one man. Witthoeft has since been \u2063participating in a nightly vigil outside the Washington,\u2064 D.C.\u2064 jail \u200bwhere\u2064 many \u200dJanuary 6\u200c defendants are being held.<\/p>\n<p>In \u2064the interview, Witthoeft expressed her \u2064grief and demanded justice for her\u2063 daughter. She believes that an investigation into Babbitt&#8217;s death is necessary \u2063and that the men currently incarcerated deserve\u200c fair and accurate \u2062sentences, rather than the overreach that is currently being witnessed.<\/p>\n<p>For Witthoeft, her presence at \u2063the vigil is not only about\u200b seeking justice for her daughter but also about \u200chighlighting the unfair treatment\u2063 and\u2063 violation of constitutional rights that many defendants have experienced. She strongly feels that Ashli&#8217;s rights were violated,\u2064 considering her service to the country as \u200can Air Force veteran. Witthoeft finds\u2063 it completely unacceptable that her daughter \u200cserved her country multiple times overseas, only to be killed at a &#8220;Stop the Steal&#8221; rally and then\u200b discarded like a disposable being by her own\u2063 government.<\/p>\n<p>When asked about the vigil outside the D.C. \u200djail, Witthoeft revealed that she has been attending for approximately \u2063520 nights.\u2063 She believes that the demonstrations and conversations held during the vigil provide a voice for the incarcerated defendants. Initially, these individuals \u200dwere treated poorly by some of the \u200dguards, but the situation has improved,\u2063 and \u200bthey now have visitation rights. Witthoeft and others who attend the vigil play a crucial role in keeping their spirits up and supporting\u200b them through their legal proceedings.<\/p>\n<p>Turning the conversation towards reforms, Witthoeft emphasized the need\u200d for prison reform in the country as\u200c a whole.
