Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY) referred to the proceedings\u2062 as &#8220;the same hearing we\u2019ve had 10, 12 times. Same pig,\u200d different \u2062lipstick because we\u2019re now going to\u2064 call it an impeachment hearing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The committee, under Republican control since January, has conducted numerous hearings on the border crisis, with five of them \u200dspecifically investigating \u2064Mayorkas \u200cfor alleged \u2062dereliction of duty.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>Attacks on the\u2063 Process<\/h3>\n<p>Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green (R-TN) defended the committee&#8217;s \u2062actions, stating, &#8220;Make no mistake \u2014 attacks \u2063on the integrity of this process are meant\u200d to distract you from\u2064 the deadly\u200c consequences of our open border.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>However, Thompson \u200dargued that investigating Mayorkas for &#8220;dereliction of duty&#8221; does\u200c not constitute a high \u2063crime or misdemeanor. They blame the reversal \u2064of Trump administration policies \u2064for sending a message that illegal immigrants will not be deported.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>A Crisis of Unprecedented Proportions<\/h3>\n<p>&#8220;What Americans must understand today is that these historic numbers&#8230; are the result of a much deeper problem,&#8221; Green asserted. &#8220;All of these excuses have long predated Secretary Mayorkas\u2019 tenure, and yet, we have never experienced a crisis like this.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Green accused Mayorkas \u200dof willfully violating his oath of office and emphasized that the impeachment effort is\u200b not about policy differences but\u2064 about enforcing the \u2062law\u2064 as written by \u200bCongress.<\/p>\n<p>The committee has invited Mayorkas to appear \u200con January 18, but it remains uncertain whether he will attend.<\/p>\n<p> <\/p>\n<h2> Why do Republicans argue that the impeachment hearing is necessary\u2062 to hold\u200c Mayorkas accountable for his handling of the border crisis and migration issues?<\/h2>\n<p><span>  Expressed concerns about Mayorkas&#8217;\u2062 handling of\u200d the \u200bborder \u2064crisis and migration issues.
