Alexandria Ocasio Cortez Calls for Clarence Thomas to Recuse Himself from Trump Eligibility Case<\/h2>\n<p>Rep.\u200d Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D-NY) is urging Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas to step aside from the Colorado case involving\u2063 former\u200c President Donald Trump&#8217;s eligibility for the 2024 ballot. Ocasio-Cortez argues that Thomas&#8217;s wife&#8217;s involvement in efforts to overturn the\u200d 2020 election creates a conflict of interest.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s very clear:\u200c Clarence Thomas and, rather, his wife, Ginni, participated in the events of Jan. 6, and now what is likely \u2062coming before \u2063the Supreme Court is a judgment as to whether an event that his wife participated in, that his wife \u2063has been investigated by in the Jan. 6 committee, qualifies as an insurrection,\u201d Ocasio-Cortez said in \u2063an interview with\u2063 CNN\u2019s Anderson Cooper\u200d on Monday.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Ocasio-Cortez emphasizes that Thomas&#8217;s\u200b decision on the case would directly impact his wife\u200b and calls it a &#8220;classic, textbook conflict of interest.&#8221; \u2062She states that it would be scandalous if he does not recuse \u2064himself.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, Ocasio-Cortez and \u200bseven\u200d other House Democrats sent a letter to Justice Thomas demanding his recusal.
