Despite Trump&#8217;s \u2064lawyer&#8217;s claim that Justice Brett Kavanaugh would rule in his favor, senators are expressing their \u200csupport for the court&#8217;s involvement.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;I think \u2062it should \u200bbe a slam dunk in the Supreme Court. I have faith in them,&#8221; said Alina Habba, one of Trump&#8217;s lead attorneys, in a Fox News\u2064 interview.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You \u200bknow, people like Kavanaugh, who the president \u2062fought for, who the president went through how to get into place, he&#8217;ll step up.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Members of the Senate Judiciary Committee, including Democrats critical\u2064 of the \u200dcurrent \u200bjustices, are not deterred by \u2064Habba&#8217;s comments. Senator Sheldon \u200dWhitehouse, who\u200c has been pushing for an ethics code on the Supreme Court, stated that his feelings on the case\u2064 are yet to be determined.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;They\u200d could\u2063 surprise us,&#8221; Whitehouse said of the court.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Senator Richard Blumenthal emphasized the need for the highest federal court to\u2062 decide on this matter, rather than leaving it up to individual states.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;This court has become so\u200d blatantly and practically politicized that its decision will lack a high\u2064 degree \u200bof credibility,\u2063 but it has to decide institutionally what the\u2063 outcome is going to be,&#8221; Blumenthal said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>While some senators have\u200d concerns about the\u2062 Supreme Court&#8217;s ruling, Senator Peter Welch believes it is necessary for the court to resolve the\u2062 issue.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a very \u200ddifficult question. I don&#8217;t \u2063think Trump should be\u200c on the ballot. I think he should have been impeached,&#8221; Welch said. &#8220;It&#8217;s hard \u2064to see how we have state-by-state adjudication\u200d of whether a person can be a candidate, so it&#8217;s got to be resolved\u200b by the Supreme Court.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Republicans, both allies and opponents of Trump, also express satisfaction with \u200cthe Supreme Court&#8217;s involvement.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;That needs to be cleared up,&#8221; said Senator John Cornyn. &#8220;If we have\u2063 50 states with 50 \u200cdifferent rules, that&#8217;s just a recipe for more chaos. I&#8217;m glad they&#8217;re doing it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Senator Josh Hawley criticizes the partisan judges who are preventing voters from having a say in the \u200cprimary ballot.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;Talk about an assault on democracy.
