Ron DeSantis (R-FL)\u2063 in 2022.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cDeSantis \u200cbroke our democracy, and it\u2019s too fragile &#038; too important to let him do it again. So I\u2019ll take\u2062 one for the\u2063 team and not run for re-election as I keep fighting\u2062 the illegal suspension (as a court ruled) to\u200d serve out my term on \u200cbehalf of the community that elected me,\u201d Warren passionately expressed.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Warren, who\u2064 was elected as \u2064a prosecutor for the\u2062 13th Judicial \u2062Circuit of Florida in 2016 and won reelection in \u200d2020,\u2063 was suspended by DeSantis in August 2022. Warren then turned to the Florida \u2063Supreme Court, but they \u200ddeclined \u2063to reinstate him, citing his delayed filing of the claim.<\/p>\n<p>During Warren&#8217;s suspension, DeSantis appointed Republican Susan Lopez as his replacement. Lopez, who is running for a full term in 2024, released\u200b a statement vowing to\u200b continue\u2062 fighting for crime victims and their families.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cAs your State Attorney, I\u2064 remain focused\u200d on keeping Hillsborough safe. I will\u200c continue to fight for crime victims and their families. I will continue to work hand-in-hand with law enforcement. The people of Hillsborough County deserve a State Attorney who will follow and uphold the law.
