Experts have pointed out that China is actively reducing its reliance on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/xi-jinping-announces-he-is-preparing-his-country-for-war\/\" title=\"Xi Jinping Announces He Is Preparing His Country for War\">foreign grain imports<\/a>, implementing new military readiness laws, and constructing or upgrading air-raid shelters and wartime emergency hospitals.<\/p>\n<p>Taiwan&#8217;s minister\u200c of national\u2062 defense, Chiu Kuo-cheng, has issued a warning that \u2063China will possess the capability for a\u2063 &#8220;full-scale&#8221; invasion by 2025. \u200bHowever, concerns remain regarding Taiwan&#8217;s preparedness.<\/p>\n<p>In 2023, the Taiwanese government revealed plans to increase defense \u200dspending to $19.1 billion, representing a mere 3.5% increase from the previous\u2064 year&#8217;s budget and a meager 2.6% of the nation&#8217;s GDP.<\/p>\n<p>By comparison, both Poland and Israel have significantly bolstered their defense budgets, accounting for 4% \u200dand 6% of their respective GDPs. Despite facing threats from\u2062 Russia and Iran,\u2063 whose military and economic power pale in comparison to China&#8217;s, neither Warsaw nor Jerusalem confronts an\u200c invasion that could sever\u200d supply lines. If\u200d China \u200dwere to invade Taiwan, resupply from the U.S. and allies would \u2064be \u200bextremely challenging, if not impossible.<\/p>\n<p>Taiwanese officials acknowledge that the \u2063country has consistently increased \u2064its defense budget in recent years, allocating a greater proportion of its GDP to the military than most NATO \u2064member\u200b states.\u200d However, given the\u200c magnitude of the threat posed by China, this remains insufficient. It\u200b is also \u2063important not to view\u2063 free-riding NATO member states like Germany\u2062 as models for defense spending.<\/p>\n<p>Public opinion polls indicate that a majority \u2063of Taiwanese citizens are willing to fight if China\u200b resorts\u200c to force for\u2064 reunification. Taiwanese people\u2064 are\u2063 well aware \u200cof the potential\u2062 fate of their\u2063 vibrant democracy under Beijing&#8217;s rule, as\u200b demonstrated by China&#8217;s suppression of democratic forces in Hong Kong. However, popular sentiment \u2063alone cannot defeat \u200cChina&#8217;s\u200c People&#8217;s Liberation Army; it requires \u2062substantial military strength. This is a cause for \u200cconcern.<\/p>\n<p>For years, Taiwan neglected investing in coastal \u2063defense\u2063 and asymmetric capabilities, \u2064instead focusing on expensive weapons platforms that\u200d would be easily outmatched by China.\u200c While Taiwan has recently changed course, \u2064the scale and urgency of these efforts\u2063 remain insufficient. Deterrence and defense of Taiwan necessitate both immediate action and drastic changes.<\/p>\n<p>A Sino-American conflict would be the\u200d most\u2064 devastating war the world has seen in eight decades. Taiwan is a crucial \u2062partner, with its significance extending\u200c beyond semiconductors and democracy. If Taiwan\u2064 were to fall, \u200bAmerica&#8217;s position in the Indo-Pacific and the world would be \u200cseverely impacted. Taiwan\u2064 must urgently reconsider\u2063 its defense strategy and allocate a more significant portion \u2064of its GDP to strengthening its military capabilities.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, Taiwan\u200d must invest in modernizing and expanding\u2064 its armed forces. Upgrading its naval and air defense systems is crucial to ensure the country&#8217;s ability to defend itself against China&#8217;s advanced military\u2063 technology. It is essential to enhance Taiwan&#8217;s missile defense capabilities, as\u2063 China has significantly expanded its missile arsenal in recent years. Taiwan must also \u200bfocus on strengthening its cyber defenses to defend against potential \u2063cyberattacks, which are increasingly used as a strategic tool in modern warfare.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to its own efforts, Taiwan must seek \u2063stronger alliances and partnerships with other\u2064 nations. Strengthening ties with the United States, Japan, and other like-minded countries that share concerns about China&#8217;s aggression is paramount. It is essential\u200c for these \u200cnations \u200dto provide Taiwan with the necessary military\u2064 support and know-how to \u200beffectively\u2063 deter and repel\u2062 an invasion.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, diplomatic efforts must\u200c be intensified to \u200bgarner international support for\u2063 Taiwan&#8217;s sovereignty. The international \u200bcommunity \u2062must be made aware of the imminent\u2063 threat posed by \u2063China and\u2063 the potential consequences of its invasion.
