Biden, Jr., as Vice President and\/or President: (1) took any official action or effected any change in government policy because of money or\u2062 other things\u2064 of \u2064value provided to himself or his family; \u200c(2) abused his office \u200cof public\u200c trust by providing foreign \u2063interests with access to him and his \u2063office in exchange for payments to his \u2064family or him; or (3) abused his office of public\u2063 trust\u2062 by knowingly participating in a scheme to enrich himself or his family by giving foreign interests the impression\u200d that they would receive access to him and his office in exchange for payments \u200dto his family or him,\u201d both committees\u2019 resolutions state.<\/p>\n<p>The committees also planned to use Hunter\u2019s testimony to inform future financial disclosure\u200c legislation that requires <strong>transparency\u2063 when the President\u2019s or Vice President\u2019s family members engage in lucrative financial transactions.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs part of our investigation, the Committees seek to craft legislative\u2062 solutions aimed at deficiencies we have identified in the current legal framework regarding ethics laws and the disclosure of financial interests\u200b related to the immediate family members of Vice Presidents \u200band Presidents\u2014deficiencies\u2062 that may place American \u200cnational security and \u200dinterests at risk,\u201d the reports note. \u201cSpecifically, \u2062the Committees are concerned \u200bthat foreign nationals appear to\u2063 have sought access and influence by engaging in lucrative business relationships with high-profile \u2062political figures\u2019 immediate family members.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Congressional committees have the <a href=\"https:\/\/supreme.justia.com\/cases\/federal\/us\/421\/491\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Supreme Court-backed power and precedent<\/a> to command someone\u2019s presence as part of an \u200dinvestigation. U.S. Code also grants punishment for those who deliberately fail to respond to congressional summons in the form of a \u2062misdemeanor, up to a $100,000 fine, and one year of prison time.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-28388c992ab90e23b367f04dc2356696 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-28388c992ab90e23b367f04dc2356696\"><\/div>\n<p>Hunter\u2019s legal\u200d team, however, repeatedly\u200d spurned the Oversight and Judiciary\u200b Committees\u2019 congressional subpoenas over Hunter\u2019s insistence that\u2062 \u201cCommittees\u2063 deviate from their standard\u200c investigative \u2063procedure to provide Mr. Biden with special treatment\u201d \u2063with a public hearing. Both committees determined Hunter\u2019s excuses for failing\u200c to comply with the subpoena \u2062lack merit.<\/p>\n<p>According \u200dto the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/document\/697455198\/Hunter-Biden-Contempt-Report-Judiciary\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">committees<\/a>\u2018 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/document\/697455313\/Hunter-Biden-Contempt-Report-Oversight\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">resolutions<\/a> published on Monday, \u200dHunter \u201cviolated federal law\u201d when he spent his time on Dec. 13 hosting a press conference in front of the Capitol instead of complying \u200cwith a congressional subpoena.
