Ballot measures\u200c in Michigan, Arizona, Ohio, Massachusetts, and a bill in Connecticut\u2063 aim to achieve this.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, only\u2064 seven \u200bstates have a single\u2062 minimum wage for all workers, \u200bregardless \u200bof tips. While \u2062some states have increased the subminimum pay\u2064 for\u200c tipped workers, it still remains lower than the\u200b minimum wage in \u200bthose states.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the expectation for employers to make up the difference when tips fall short\u2063 of the federal minimum wage, this is not\u2064 always the case. Labor advocates \u2062and researchers \u200chighlight the need for change.<\/p>\n<p>Following\u2062 successful\u2062 efforts in Chicago and Washington, \u200dD.C., to phase out the tipped \u2062subminimum wage, advocates are optimistic about the future.
