But few were as gung-ho about restrictive measures as Rep. Ruben Gallego.<\/p>\n<p>The Arizona Democrat, who \u2063is running to unseat\u200c Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I., Ariz.), in 2022 told a Marine officer who opposed the vaccine\u200b to \u200c&#8221;<strong>shut the fuck up<\/strong>&#8221; and get the jab.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It\u2019s called being a Marine <strong>suck it up\u2063 and deal with it<\/strong>,&#8221; Gallego, a former Marine infantryman, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RubenGallego\/status\/1477366021333815296\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> on Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>But Gallego did more than \u2062just talk tough on social media. He <a href=\"https:\/\/rubengallego.house.gov\/media-center\/press-releases\/rep-gallego-introduces-legislation-protect-vaccinated-americans-higher\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">introduced<\/a> a bill in October 2021 to permit insurance companies to hike insurance premiums up to 50 percent for\u2063 policyholders who &#8220;elected not to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.&#8221; And early in the pandemic, Gallego pushed fines for businesses that opposed mask mandates. &#8220;That gets you to about 90% of the problem\u2062 and \u2064will turn the infection rate around,&#8221; Gallego <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RubenGallego\/status\/1273277985924104192\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> in June 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Gallego\u2019s support\u200b for those increasingly unpopular positions could hurt him \u200din Arizona. Though support for mandates was initially high, \u200cby October 2022, 63 \u200cpercent of Americans opposed them for the workplace, according\u2062 to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/polling-institute\/reports\/monmouthpoll_us_101122\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Monmouth poll<\/a>. And even some Democrats have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/ideas\/archive\/2022\/01\/democrats-botched-public-school-covid-policy\/621183\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">expressed disenchantment<\/a> with the\u200c party over policies to slow the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesman for the \u200cNational Republican Senatorial Committee, which\u2063 is spending \u200bheavily against Gallego, said his remarks were &#8220;<strong>appalling, but unsurprising<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Ruben Gallego cussed out a service\u2062 member and threatened\u200d to hike premiums if they \u2063don\u2019t comply with his COVID extremism,&#8221; said NRSC spokesman Tate Mitchell. &#8220;Gallego has been\u200d beholden to the radical fringes for years, and it\u2019s never\u2064 going to change.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Gallego\u2019s\u2063 foul-mouthed \u2064advice for a fellow Marine \u2062came in response to\u200b a tweet from Sen. J.D. Vance (R., Ohio), who relayed a conversation he had\u2063 with \u200dthe father of a Marine officer who reluctantly got the vaccine.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Sounds like the officer should \u2062shut the fuck up,&#8221;\u200d Gallego wrote in the Jan. 1,\u2064 2022, post. &#8220;Now you know how \u2063it is to be enlisted \u200cwe had to lots of shit that we didn\u2019t like. It\u2019s called being a Marine suck it \u200bup and deal with it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The \u200cmilitary vaccine mandate has \u200dproved wildly controversial. More than 8,400 service members were kicked out of \u2064the\u2062 military for refusing the vaccine, at a time of historically low recruitment numbers. Some military officials \u200dhave said vaccine mandates hurt recruitment efforts, a theory the Pentagon has denied.<\/p>\n<p>Gallego introduced his bill to hike insurance premiums, the Vaccine \u200cAccountability and Premium Protection Act, when inflation was at 6.2 percent, a\u200c historically high rate. The bill,\u2062 which permitted the\u2064 higher insurance premiums for the &#8220;duration&#8221; of the government\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/doj-says-its-seized-1-4-billion-in-stolen-covid-relief-funds\/\" title=\"DOJ seizes .4B in stolen COVID relief funds.\">public \u2062health emergency<\/a>, was submitted to a House\u200c subcommittee but never received a vote.<\/p>\n<p>Gallego has not always abided by the strict mandates he publicly supports. In 2021, \u2062he was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/eric-swallwell-ruben-gallegos-shirtless-in-qatar-riding-camel-2021-7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">photographed<\/a> without\u200d a mask\u2014and without a shirt\u2014during an all-expenses paid junket \u200cto Qatar, the oil-rich Gulf nation that\u200c funds Hamas and other terrorist groups.<\/p>\n<p>Gallego\u2019s office did not respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p> <\/p>\n<h2> How does \u200bGallego&#8217;s support for mandatory vaccinations and penalties for those who choose not to get vaccinated contradict \u200cthe principles of personal freedom and individual choice that \u2063many Americans cherish?<\/h2>\n<p><span>  D, \u2062&#8221;Ruben Gallego&#8217;s extreme stance on\u2062 COVID policies showcases his\u2062 disconnect with the American people. His support for forcing \u2062individuals to get vaccinated\u2063 and\u2064 penalizing those who choose\u2062 not to goes against the principles of \u2064personal freedom and individual\u2063 choice that many Americans hold dear. Gallego&#8217;s proposed legislation to allow insurance companies to increase premiums for those who choose not to receive the vaccine sets\u200b a dangerous precedent and infringes\u200c upon the autonomy of individuals to make their own healthcare decisions.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Moreover, Gallego&#8217;s support for imposing fines on businesses that\u200c oppose mask mandates reveals a lack of understanding for the challenges faced by small business owners. Many \u2062small\u200c businesses have already been devastated by the economic impact\u2062 of the pandemic, and punishing them further for their stance on\u2063 mask mandates is an unfair\u200c burden that \u200bhinders their ability to recover and thrive.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Monmouth poll results\u2063 clearly\u200c indicate a growing opposition to mandates in the workplace, including\u200d vaccine mandates. Americans value their personal freedoms and are increasingly wary of government overreach. Gallego&#8217;s unwavering support for \u2064these controversial policies is \u2064out of touch with the \u200dsentiment of the American people and may prove detrimental to his political aspirations.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;While \u200cit is important to\u200c prioritize public health and safety, it is equally\u2062 important to respect the rights and choices of individuals.
