News of Harvard \u2064President Claudine Gay\u2019s resignation on Tuesday prompted understandable celebration on the right and much-deserved praise for\u2062 journalists \u2064Christopher Rufo, Christopher \u2064Brunet, and\u2062 Aaron Sibarium, who exposed<\/a> Gay \u200cas a \u200c serial plagiarist<\/a>.<\/p>\n

No doubt, \u200ccelebration is in order. Gay was \u2064of\u200d course not only a \u200bplagiarist but a Hamas apologist who \u200dshrugged off rampant antisemitism on Harvard\u2019s campus in the wake \u2063of the Oct. 7\u200b Hamas terrorist\u200b attack on Israeli civilians. In\u2064 a shocking congressional hearing last month about the spread of antisemitism on college campuses, Gay, along with MIT President \u200dSally Kornbluth and \u200dformer University of Pennsylvania President\u200d Liz\u2062 Magill (who\u2064 was forced to resign shortly\u2062 after the \u2063hearing),\u200d insisted that calling for the genocide of Jews doesn\u2019t necessarily\u200c constitute harassment, and instead depends on the \u201ccontext.\u201d<\/p>\n

So, \u2062yes, Gay is\u2063 a toxic, racist, left-wing ideologue<\/a> who was deservedly hounded out of her \u200dpost as Harvard \u2064president. But let\u2019s be sober about\u2062 what\u2019s happened here and what \u200dhasn\u2019t. Gay\u2019s resignation\u2064 is a scalp, but it\u2019s not quite the victory some on the right\u2063 seem to think it is.<\/p>\n

For one thing, Gay was \u2062forced out \u2063not for the appalling moral insanity\u200d she displayed before Congress\u200c about\u200d antisemitism on campus, but because that notoriety \u200dexposed her academic work to \u2064closer scrutiny \u2014 and it turns out she\u2019s an academic fraud.<\/p>\n

In her resignation letter<\/a>, however, Gay admitted no wrongdoing and\u2064 instead blamed her ouster on \u201cpersonal attacks and threats \u200dfueled by racial animus.\u201d What\u2019s more,\u2063 she \u2062appears to have resigned as \u2063president but \u200cretained\u2063 her faculty position despite her plagiarism,\u200c which shows you how seriously Harvard takes all of this.<\/p>\n

And she had no shortage of defenders\u2063 step up on Tuesday\u2062 after news broke\u2063 of her resignation.\u2064 Chief among them was another\u2063 race\u200c hustler and shameless grifter, \u2062Ibram X. Kendi,\u2062 who blamed<\/a> \u201cracist\u2063 mobs\u201d trying to \u201ctopple all black \u2062people from positions of power.\u201d (Recall\u2062 that Kendi is himself\u2063 under some scrutiny for the failure of his $40 million Center\u200c for Antiracist Research at Boston University.)<\/p>\n

Not to be outdone, the \u2062greatest race\u200d hustler\u2064 of\u200d them\u2064 all, Al Sharpton, declared<\/a> that\u200c Gay\u2019s resignation was an \u201cattack\u201d on\u2063 \u201cevery black woman\u201d in the country. Marc Lamont Hill, also a racist, insisted<\/a> that \u2064the next president of Harvard\u200c \u201cMUST be a black\u200b woman.\u201d<\/p>\n

On CNN, Matt\u200d Egan turned himself \u2063into a\u2064 meme on\u200d Tuesday, saying, \u201cWe \u2063should \u2063note that Claudine Gay has\u2064 not\u2062 been accused \u2063of stealing anyone\u2019s\u200d ideas in any of her writings. She\u200b has been accused of sort of more like copying \u200cother peoples\u2019 writings without attribution. \u200cSo it\u2019s been more \u200csloppy attribution\u200b than stealing anyone\u2019s ideas.\u201d Thanks \u2064for clearing that up, Matt.<\/p>\n
