The Act\u2062 highlights the tragic death of Mahsa Amini,\u200d a\u2064 young woman\u200b who died in the\u2062 custody of the Morality Police, \u2063triggering widespread protests across Iran.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>On September 16, 2022, a 22-year-old woman, Mahsa \u200cAmini, \u200cdied in\u200d the detention of the Morality Police \u2062after being\u2064 beaten and detained for \u200dallegedly transgressing discriminatory dress codes for women. \u200dThis tragic incident\u200b triggered widespread, pro-women\u2019s rights, pro-democracy protests across all of Iran\u2019s 31 provinces, calling for the end to Iran\u2019s theocratic regime. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>In the course of the\u200d protests, the Iranian security forces\u2019\u2064 violent\u2064 crackdown includes mass arrests, well-documented beating of protestors,\u200d throttling of the internet and telecommunications services, and shooting protestors with\u200b live ammunition.
