However, the correction still manages to cast doubt on the Israeli government by introducing new unverified claims from unnamed sources.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Post&#8217;s &#8220;editor&#8217;s note&#8221; attached to the original article,\u200d titled &#8220;Israel&#8217;s \u2062war with Hamas separates Palestinian babies from \u2062their mothers,&#8221; \u2063states:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><em>An earlier version\u2062 of this article about Palestinian mothers in #Gaza who have been separated from \u2063their \u2063newborns mischaracterized some aspects of\u200c Israeli rules for permits that allowed some Palestinian women, before Oct. \u20637,\u2064 to travel from Gaza to give \u200bbirth at hospitals in the West Bank and Israel. The article incorrectly said\u2064 that all\u200d Palestinian\u2064 mothers who received authorization to leave\u2064 Gaza for\u2063 humanitarian\u2062 reasons \u200bhad \u2062to return to Gaza to reapply after \u2064their\u2064 permits expired. In fact, it was not always necessary for mothers\u200b to return to \u200bGaza.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><em>The article \u200chas been updated\u200b to specify that \u2064it was hospital officials who told\u200d two Palestinian\u200c mothers that they needed to return to\u2064 Gaza to apply for new permits. The article also\u200b reported an incorrect birth\u200c weight for one newborn, Mahmoud; he weighed\u2064 3\u00bd\u2062 pounds, not 7 \u200dpounds. The \u200barticle \u200dhas been corrected.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The\u200d Post admits, &#8220;In addition, The Post neglected to\u200d seek comment from Israeli officials for this article.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">However, Robert Satloff, the \u200cExecutive Director of The Washington Institute, \u200cpoints\u2062 out that\u2062 the Post&#8217;s refusal to\u200d identify the hospitals or name any of the \u200cnurses, doctors, or administrators cited in\u2063 the article makes little\u2063 sense. He argues that the Post is\u200c doubling down on the unverified claim that the\u2062 unnamed interviewees have a legitimate fear of &#8220;retaliation&#8221; by Israel.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Satloff \u2062highlights that NBC News, on December 6, cited the\u200c hospital\u2062 and a doctor by name in \u2062its own \u2064version of \u2063the story.\u200b He also notes that the Post added a paragraph to the original article, using unnamed\u200c sources \u2062to make new unverified claims:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><em>But patient advocates\u200d and hospital staff who help women with the process say\u200d these on-the-ground extensions can be difficult to obtain and are not consistently granted.
