Despite some family members of the victims wanting\u2063 the house to \u200dstay intact for the trial, an \u200cexcavator began tearing down the residence\u2064 just before sunset.  <\/p>\n<p>However, family\u2062 members of victims Kaylee Goncalves, 21, and Xana Kernodle, 20, \u2064have\u200b been\u2062 vocal about their opposition \u200cto knocking\u2062 down the house. The families \u2064feel that the residence is \u2063one of the \u201cmost critical pieces \u200cof\u200d evidence in the case.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cIt is obvious from \u200cthe two recent\u200d visits to the house, by both the Prosecution and the Defense, that there is still evidentiary value in having the King \u200dRoad house \u200cstill standing. There \u200cmay be additional discovery by either \u200bparty that prompts one side or the \u200cother to go back to the scene \u2064of the crime,\u201d the\u2064 Goncalves family said in a statement this \u200bmonth. \u201cJurors are notoriously unpredictable and \u2062they tend to make decisions on a variety of facts and circumstances. It would be foolish of us to try and foresee what they will want or need to \u200dmake a just verdict in \u200bthis case.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The day before the demolition was set, the two families released a statement where they cited eight reasons why the house should stay intact, \u2063at least until after the trial concludes.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cWe all along have just wanted the King \u200d [Road] home to not be \u2062demolished until after the trial and for us to have a\u200c trial date so that we can look forward to justice being served. Is that really too much to ask?\u201d\u00a0they questioned.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>However, the house\u2019s fate was not up to \u200cthem, as the owner of the 3-story house gave the property rights to the university after\u200b the quadruple homicide took place.\u200d It was also the school\u2019s decision \u200bto destroy it. <\/p>\n<p>The University of Idaho decided to demolish the home over winter break in order to \u201cto decrease further impact on the students who live in that area.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cWhile we appreciate the emotional connection some family members \u200cof the victims may have to this house, it is time for its removal and to allow the collective healing of our community to continue,\u201d University \u200dPresident Scott Green <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uidaho.edu\/news\/news-articles\/news-releases\/2023\/121423-kingrd-demo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In an opposing stance, family members \u200dof murder victim Ethan Chapin, 20, supported \u200cthe decision to tear down the house. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re supportive of the decision \u2064to\u2062 take down the\u2062 King Street House \u2013 for the \u200dgood of the university, its students (including our own kids), and the community of Moscow,\u201d Chapin\u2019s family said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The \u200dprosecution \u2064and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/its-appalling-qanon-shamans-lawyer-says-doj-lied-withheld-videos-aired-by-carlson\/\" title=\"\u2018It\u2019s Appalling\u2019: QAnon Shaman\u2019s Lawyer Says DOJ Lied, Withheld Videos Aired By Carlson\">legal defense teams<\/a> have had access to \u2063the house for the last two\u200c months. Both sides have maintained that they were \u201cdone with the house\u201d and \u201chave what they need to bring this case to justice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Graduate student Bryan Kohberger was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oann.com\/newsroom\/grand-jury-indicts-bryan-kohberger\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">indicted<\/a> in May on four counts of murder in relation to\u2063 the stabbings. Both sides have \u200dasserted that they were &#8220;done with the\u200c house&#8221; \u2062and &#8220;have what they need to \u200cbring\u200b this case\u2064 to justice.&#8221; Graduate student Bryan Kohberger was indicted in May on four counts of murder in relation to the stabbings. He pleaded not guilty to the crime.
