California Democratic Reps. Katie Porter, Barbara Lee, and Adam Schiff are all vying for the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein&#8217;s seat, but Garvey has managed to secure the second place spot.<\/p>\n<h3>Garvey&#8217;s Rise in the Polls<\/h3>\n<p>In a recent \u2063Politico\/Morning Consult poll, \u200dGarvey overtook Porter, who had been trailing Schiff for second \u200bplace.\u200c While Schiff holds 28% of likely California primary voters, Garvey, the most \u2062prominent GOP candidate, gathered \u2063an impressive 19%. Porter mustered 17%, followed by Lee at 14%.<\/p>\n<h3>A\u2062 Baseball Star Turned Politician<\/h3>\n<p>Garvey retired from Major League Baseball in 1987 after a successful 19-year career as\u200d an all-star infielder with the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres.<\/p>\n<h3>Garvey&#8217;s Campaign Strategy<\/h3>\n<p>Despite launching his campaign over two months ago, Garvey has been relatively low-key in the media. However, he \u2063recently embarked on a tour of Southern California to address \u2062key issues. During his tour, he visited the \u200cSalton Sea \u200dto\u2062 learn\u2062 more about the inland sea and stopped at \u2063a beef processing facility in Brawley to \u2062discuss the need for more middle-class jobs. He also toured a portion of the California-Mexico border with Rep. \u200bDarrell Issa (R-CA).<\/p>\n<p>Matt Shupe, a Republican consultant and spokesman for Garvey&#8217;s team, explained that the candidate has been focused on fundraising but plans to ramp \u2063up his campaigning \u200befforts in 2024.
