When asked\u2062 whether calls for genocide against Jews violate their campuses\u2019 harassment policies, all three declined\u2062 to\u2064 state in the affirmative. That\u2019s not a\u2063 misstep \u2014 it\u2019s a full-blown scandal.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-2057463670\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-28f3a9cdf611db1925452894e3ce923e fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-28f3a9cdf611db1925452894e3ce923e\"><\/div>\n<p>Still, thanks to well-merited backlash from donors, trustees, and alumni, Magill is out, and some modicum of sanity has returned to \u2063the Ivy League. Or \u200dhas it?<\/p>\n<p>On one hand, it is \u200ba welcome sign of cultural sanity when \u2062elites rebuke pro-terrorist protesters and deplorably weak administrators at our most prestigious universities. It shows that common sense can still\u200b prevail in our country \u2014 at least when it becomes too embarrassing or expensive for people to \u2063ignore it.<\/p>\n<p>On \u2064the other \u2063hand,\u200b we shouldn\u2019t congratulate ourselves when leftist institutions make some tiny concession. We \u200ccan\u2019t fool ourselves that removing one\u2064 university president or <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2023\/10\/16\/wexner-foundation-harvard-donor-israel-hamas\/\">rescinding<\/a> a few hundred-million-dollar donations will deliver us from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/vets-battle-critical-race-theory-invasion-of-military\/\" title=\"Vets Battle Critical Race Theory Invasion of Military\">left-wing extremism<\/a>. The truth is \u200cthat our societal rot goes far too deep for that.<\/p>\n<p>The\u2062 vile displays \u2063of antisemitism on the campuses of Penn, Harvard, MIT, and other schools\u2062 in the wake of the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas \u200cterrorist attacks were not sudden breaks from normalcy. Celebrating the \u200cdeadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust and blatantly calling for genocide \u2014 these\u200b transgressions are notable for \u200dthe degree of their \u200cdepravity, but they are simply the \u200cculmination of years of ideological drift, cyclically driven and reinforced \u2063by students, faculty, and bureaucracy.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-928d19756ecaeb18ec61d47d6622f709 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-928d19756ecaeb18ec61d47d6622f709\"><\/div>\n<p>The same\u2064 radicals who gave us \u201cfrom the river to the sea\u201d and \u201cIntifada\u201d gave\u2062 us so-called \u200d\u201cdiversity,\u200c equity, and inclusion,\u201d three magic words that <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/12\/09\/penn-teammate-speaks-out-against-transgender-swimmer-lia-thomas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">permitted<\/a> Penn to put a \u200cman on the women\u2019s swim team and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2023\/03\/15\/1163644248\/wellesley-college-referendum-trans-nonbinary-students\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pushed<\/a> Wellesley College to become co-ed \u200d\u2014 \u200dwhile remaining \u200ban \u201call-girls\u201d\u200c institution.<\/p>\n<p>The same radicals who gave us DEI\u200b gave us \u201cBlack Lives Matter,\u201d a seemingly \u2063innocuous phrase whose calculated circulation and embrace justified countless instances\u200d of violence and\u200c looting \u2014 and empowered a \u2063racist, anti-American group that \u200dhas \u200bnow openly aligned itself with\u200d Hamas.<\/p>\n<p>Before BLM, they gave us \u200b <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/politics\/archive\/2017\/03\/middlebury-free-speech-violence\/518667\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">violent protests<\/a> against conservative speakers. Before that, they gave \u2064us \u2062the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2015\/03\/22\/opinion\/sunday\/judith-shulevitz-hiding-from-scary-ideas.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">safe-space craze<\/a>, which jeopardized campus free\u2063 speech and made a mockery of academic inquiry. The list goes on.<\/p>\n<p>These movements aren\u2019t identical. Nevertheless, if people\u2064 who are outraged about today\u2019s outpouring of \u2062antisemitism truly want\u2062 change in the Ivy League and beyond, they need to be willing to oppose all of them \u2014 because they are all connected by the same thread of Marxism that\u200c threatens academic integrity and the American way of life.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-686f3f6895c6d8a4144b7e735aca7328 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-686f3f6895c6d8a4144b7e735aca7328\"><\/div>\n<p>I use that word very intentionally. I know \u201cMarxism\u201d has a \u200dhistory of being misused and overused. \u200dBut there is no\u2063 better way\u2063 to describe the ideological narratives responsible for\u2064 the past decade of \u201cwoke\u201d craziness at colleges and universities.<\/p>\n<p>Like communism before them, these left-wing cultural narratives divide the world into \u2064oppressed and oppressors. The so-called \u201cLGBT community\u201d versus the \u201cstraight-cisgender patriarchy.\u201d \u201cPeople of color\u201d versus \u201cwhite people.\u201d\u2062 \u201cNative Palestinians\u201d versus \u201cZionist colonizers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>These categories erase individuality for\u200b the sake \u200dof group identification. They also replace the Judeo-Christian understanding of personal responsibility for evil \u2014 an understanding upon which our entire legal\u2063 system is built \u2014 with a \u200cperverse conception of zero-sum group power dynamics.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, like other Marxist \u200bideologies before them, these narratives eventually legitimize violence against the alleged \u201coppressors.\u201d This\u2063 might look\u2062 like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/politics\/archive\/2017\/03\/middlebury-free-speech-violence\/518667\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">twisting<\/a> a professor\u2019s neck. It might look like a \u2064\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/what-janes-revenge-abortion-rights-group-vows-night-rage-over-roe-1718919\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">night of rage<\/a>\u201d against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/mcconnell-unloads-on-bidens-radical-and-underqualified-hhs-nominee-xavier-becerra\/\" title=\"McConnell Unloads On Biden\u2019s \u2018Radical And Underqualified\u2019 HHS Nominee Xavier Becerra\">crisis pregnancy centers<\/a>. It\u200d might look like days \u200dof rioting, looting, and vandalism \u2062in our cities. It might look like shouting, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/10\/10\/reprehensible-protestors-chant-gas-the-jews-outside-sydney-opera-house\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Gas the Jews<\/a>.\u201d However it appears, whatever its flavor, violence is the end of the road. Because, if politics \u2063is reduced to zero-sum power dynamics, it is an\u2064 acceptable answer to perceived injustice.<\/p>\n<p>I say this with confidence, as none of\u200d this is new. Marxist\u2064 intellectuals of the 19th and 20th\u200b centuries said as much\u2062 long\u2062 ago. Jean-Paul Sartre\u2064 argued that revolutionary murder is therapeutic. Frantz Fanon <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/magazine\/2021\/12\/06\/frantz-fanons-enduring-legacy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">did the same<\/a>. Noam Chomsky <a href=\"https:\/\/newcriterion.com\/issues\/2003\/5\/the-hypocrisy-of-noam-chomsky\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">defended<\/a> Pol \u200bPot. All three have a \u2064longstanding cult among leftist professors and college students.<\/p>\n<p>As Ross Douthat <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/10\/13\/opinion\/hamas-israel-land-acknowledgements.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">observes<\/a>, the \u200bcurrent outbreak of campus\u200b antisemitism is just a resurgence of \u201cimpeccably left-wing sentiments, commonplace in the not-so-distant past, with a long \u200cpedigree in the Marxist-Leninist and anticolonial visions that exerted so much sway (and killed so many\u200b people) across the 20th century.\u201d In short, this \u2062is so much bigger than pro-Hamas demonstrations.<\/p>\n<p>Are\u200c we willing to confront the depths of this evil\u2064 in response? Are elites willing to reject the whole ideological thread, not just its most recent manifestations?<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s an open question, but I hope the answer is\u2062 yes. Unless we say no to the Marxist\u2064 revolutionaries, they will\u2063 continue to gain ground in the academy and beyond. \u200cAnd the American \u2063values that stand in their way \u2014 from equality under \u200dthe law to the\u2062 very\u2062 existence\u2064 of individual rights \u2014 will be \u2062slowly chipped\u2064 away for anyone the \u200bleft accuses of \u201cwrongthink.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If\u200d that happens, no amount of censure and discipline \u2062from our corporate class will be able \u2064to make the madness stop.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">\n<\/div>\n<p> <\/p>\n<h2> \u2063How deep-rooted is the problem \u2062of left-wing extremism in academia and society, beyond \u200cthe\u200d resignation of\u2062 one university president?<\/h2>\n<p><span>  Nce\u200c is\u200b the logical endgame of these narratives.<\/p>\n<p>So yes, it is a victory when President Liz Magill steps \u200ddown in \u200ddisgrace. But let\u2019s \u200cnot forget that the problem \u200dgoes much deeper than one university \u2064president.\u200b Let\u2019s not forget that our elite institutions have been\u2064 promoting and empowering these ideologies for years. Let\u2019s not\u200d forget\u200b that the cultural rot has seeped far beyond the Ivy League.<\/p>\n<p>If we want to truly address the issue of left-wing extremism in academia\u2062 and society at large, we need to confront the underlying ideology. We \u200cneed to challenge the narrative that \u200bdivides us into \u2063oppressors and oppressed, that erases personal responsibility,\u200d and that justifies \u200cviolence. We need to promote a culture of free speech, intellectual diversity, and individual rights.<\/p>\n<p>That won\u2019t \u200bbe easy. The forces pushing this \u2063ideology \u2063are entrenched and powerful. But it is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/desantis-says-he-wont-be-trumps-white-house-running-mate\/\" title=\"DeSantis rejects Trump's offer as running mate.\">battle worth fighting<\/a>. It\u200c is a battle for the soul \u200bof \u2062our universities and our \u2063nation.<\/p>\n<p>We \u2062must hold our universities accountable for the\u2063 toxic environment they have created. We must demand that they \u2064uphold the \u200cvalues of open inquiry, \u2063<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/politically-correct-narrative-has-permeated-like-a-stench-couple-donates-1-35-million-to-catholic-school-now-they-want-their-money-back\/\" title=\"\u2018Politically Correct Narrative Has Permeated Like A Stench\u2019: Couple Donates .35 Million To Catholic School. Now They Want Their Money Back.\">rigorous academic standards<\/a>, and intellectual\u200c diversity. We must support \u200balternative voices\u2063 and institutions that prioritize these principles.<\/p>\n<p>The resignation\u2063 of President Liz Magill is a small victory in a much larger struggle. It is a reminder that we cannot\u2064 remain silent in the face of left-wing \u2064extremism. It \u2062is a\u2064 call\u2062 to action for all who value truth, reason, \u200cand freedom.<\/p>\n<p>Let us continue to fight for a more intellectually honest and ideologically diverse academia. Let us continue to challenge the narratives \u200dthat divide us and promote intolerance. \u200cLet \u200dus continue to protect \u2064and preserve the \u2062values that have made our universities and our nation great.<\/p>\n<p>The resignation \u200bof\u200c President\u200c Liz Magill is\u2062 just the beginning.
