If President Joe Biden doesn\u2019t understand that bedrock\u200d fact, it\u2019s up to the states\u2063 to take charge \u2014 and Texas GOP Gov. Greg Abbott is\u2062 leading the way.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.texastribune.org\/2023\/12\/18\/texas-governor-abbott-bills-border-wall-illegal-entry-crime-sb3-sb4\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Texas Tribune<\/a>, an online outlet based in Austin,\u2063 Abbott on\u200c Monday signed three bills aimed at stepping up the Lone Star State\u2019s\u200d fight against the border crisis in the face of the federal government\u2019s refusal \u200dto enforce the law.<\/p>\n<p>The most controversial is Senate Bill 4, \u200bwhich takes effect in early March, and essentially makes it\u200d a state \u200ccrime to enter Texas from Mexico at any point that \u2063isn\u2019t a\u2064 lawful port\u200b of entry \u2062into the United States. The group is led by the American Civil\u2063 Liberties Union, which has promised \u2062to file a lawsuit \u2064based \u200don the primacy of the federal government in immigration matters.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/illegal-accused-train-rape-dems-danced-philly-celebrate-sanctuary-city-funding\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Democrats<\/a>, \u200cMexican government\u2064 officials and other organizations have gone on record as being opposed to the \u200bbill \u2014 and while the Department of Justice hasn\u2019t commented on\u200b whether it plans to challenge the law, the \u200cWhite House made\u2063 it clear it was \u2063vehemently opposed to the legislation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is an extreme law that will make communities in Texas less safe,\u201d said Angelo Fern\u00e1ndez Hern\u00e1ndez, a White House\u2064 spokesman, according\u200b to CBS.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGenerally speaking, the \u2062federal government \u2014 not individual states \u2014 is charged with determining how \u200band when to remove noncitizens for violating immigration laws.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Of\u2063 the \u200dother two bills Abbott signed, one dedicates more state spending on\u200c border barriers and \u2063for Texas state troopers to patrol the \u200cnotorious <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/gov-abbott-answers-bidens-refusal-enforce-immigration-laws-will-authorize-texas-law-enforcement-directly-intervene\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Colony Ridge housing development<\/a>, an area that has become, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/10\/05\/murders-cartels-squalor-inside-haven-for-illegal-aliens\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New York\u2062 Post<\/a>, a haven for cartel operations northeast\u200b of Houston. When the Biden administration makes it clear \u200cthat it has\u2064 a preference \u200dto let border states bear the brunt\u2063 of the economic concerns created\u200b by the federal government\u2019s de facto encouragement of illegal immigration, states \u2064have to fill the \u200bbreach.<\/p>\n<p>Trafficking of \u200cboth human and \u200dcontraband items are public safety issues.\u200c When the federal government fails, it falls upon state governments to pick up the slack. The White House is very good at saying immigration law is under federal jurisdiction, but \u2064considerably less effective when it comes to backing up those words.<\/p>\n<p>The border crisis continues unabated,\u2062 with hundreds of thousands pouring into the\u2064 country illegally each\u2063 month. This pattern started with the Biden administration, and\u2062 it doesn\u2019t seem likely\u200d to change any time \u200cin the near future.<\/p>\n<p>The only thing\u2062 the White House\u200d and its Democratic allies have shown themselves to be particularly\u2063 effective at doing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/doj-demands-texas-remove-unlawful-barriers-border-abbott-issues-brutal-response\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">is carping<\/a> about any kind of \u2064attempt \u2062to enforce the border or distribute the burden by busing illegal immigrants \u200dreleased in border states to Democrat-run cities.
