In an \u2062article titled &#8220;Hungry, Thirsty, and Humiliated: Israel\u2019s Mass Arrest Campaign Sows Fear in Northern Gaza,&#8221; Shakir called for an international investigation into the\u2064 actions of the Jewish\u2062 state. Sourani condemned Israel for\u2062 leaving &#8220;corpses all \u2062over the place&#8221; in Gaza.<\/p>\n<p>Both Shakir and Sourani are frequently quoted \u2063in the <em>New York Times<\/em>, \u200cwith Shakir being a \u200bregular contributor. In a December 13th article titled &#8220;Under Rules of War, &#8216;Proportionality&#8217; in Gaza Is Not About\u200c Evening the Score,&#8221;\u200d Shakir raised &#8220;serious questions&#8221; about Israel&#8217;s potential war crimes.<\/p>\n<p>Shakir, the Israel\u2063 and Palestine director for Human Rights Watch, and Sourani,\u2064 a self-proclaimed human rights \u2063lawyer in Gaza,\u2064 are \u200dfar\u2062 from impartial \u200bexperts. They both attribute Hamas&#8217;s\u200d terrorist activities to Israeli actions, and Shakir \u200bhas called for the dismantling of \u2062Israel&#8217;s alleged \u2064apartheid state even \u2064before Israel initiated its \u2062retaliatory attacks.<\/p>\n<p>The \u200dfact that Shakir and Sourani are \u200bgiven \u2064prominence in the <em>Times<\/em> and <em>Post<\/em> reflects the media&#8217;s attempt to equate the democratic state of Israel \u2064with the\u2063 terrorist\u2064 group Hamas on \u2063a moral level.<\/p>\n<p>In one of his first \u2062tweets after October 7th, Shakir blamed the violence on Israeli &#8220;apartheid,&#8221; stating in \u200can October 9th tweet: \u2064&#8221;So long as there&#8217;s impunity, Gaza remains an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/video-game-news-websites-support-palestine-ask-for-donations-before-retracting\/\" title=\"Video Game News Websites Support Palestine, Ask For Donations Before Retracting\">open-air prison<\/a> and Israel&#8217;s apartheid isn&#8217;t dismantled, bloodshed and repression will continue.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Sourani responded to Hamas&#8217;s killing \u200dof Israeli civilians in a \u200csimilar fashion. In\u200d his\u200c first tweet after the attack, he accused Israel of launching &#8220;the boldest\u2063 and most cruel unprecedented attack&#8221; in &#8220;the heart of Gaza.&#8221; He\u200d also criticized Israel for bombing a hospital, echoing Hamas&#8217;s talking points. He wrote, &#8220;The\u2064 bombing of the \u2062Paptist \u2062hospital\u200c in the heart of Gaza, the boldest and most \u200dcruel unprecedented attack which resulted in almost 500 deaths, is the first of\u200b its scale. Israel is criminal.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>These\u200d strongly anti-Israel voices have become the go-to authorities on human rights for the mainstream media. Since October 7th, Shakir has been cited 18 times and Sourani 3 times in the <em>Times<\/em> and <em>Post<\/em>. At \u200cthe same time,\u200c both Shakir and Sourani have used platforms like X (formerly Twitter) to accuse Israel\u200c of &#8220;apartheid&#8221; and &#8220;genocide,&#8221; as well \u200bas spread Hamas propaganda by \u2063questioning whether Hamas uses facilities like \u2062hospitals and schools \u2064for military operations.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The killings of hundreds of Israelis &#038; Palestinians over the last 72 hours reflect a flagrant disregard for\u200c international law. He argued that even if they do, Israel&#8217;s decision\u200d to fight in and around those hospitals, particularly Al-Shifa, is cause for concern.<\/p>\n<p>Shakir also defended the use of death \u2064counts provided by\u200d Hamas, stating in a November \u20646th report by \u200bthe Associated Press that \u2063those figures are &#8220;professionally\u2062 done and have proven to be reliable.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Remember the think pieces about \u200bIsraeli leaders &#8220;shrinking the \u2063conflict&#8221;?
