In an effort to be included and informed \u2063about the progress of the package, CHC members participated\u2062 in a Zoom\u200b call \u2063on Saturday afternoon with \u200dWhite House chief \u200cof staff Jeff Zients and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro\u200d Mayorkas.<\/p>\n<p>The Zoom meeting, which took \u200cplace amidst\u200b a\u200b series of meetings involving \u2062Mayorkas and negotiators on \u200dCapitol Hill, occurred \u2062after weeks \u2064of requests from Hispanic lawmakers. Unfortunately, the \u2063White House \u2064did not\u200d respond to the\u2064 Washington Examiner&#8217;s request\u200c for\u2064 comment on the meeting.<\/p>\n<p>A group of bipartisan senators has been diligently\u2064 negotiating a\u200d border security\u200d deal that \u2063would be\u200c added to a\u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-fails-to-advance-defense-spending-bill-after-mccarthy-delays-short-term-funding-vote\/\" title=\"Defense spending bill fails to advance in House due to McCarthy's delay in short-term funding vote.\">defense \u200dspending bill<\/a>, which also includes\u200c aid for\u200d Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. Both sides of the negotiation recognize the importance of the \u2062border measure in order \u2063to successfully pass \u2064the legislation through both \u2062chambers of Congress.<\/p>\n<p>Over the\u2064 weekend, negotiators \u200bremained in Washington, D.C. \u200cto\u2064 discuss the \u200bpotential\u2063 deal \u2062and will continue their talks this week. On \u200dMonday, despite\u2064 it \u200bbeing\u200b Christmas recess, their Senate colleagues will join \u200cthem\u2064 to begin confirming \u2064the 11 stalled four-star generals, who\u200c were held over due to Sen.\u200b Tommy Tuberville&#8217;s blanket\u2064 hold on military promotions.<\/p>\n<p>Leading the negotiations are Sens.\u2062 James \u2062Lankford (R-OK) and Chris Murphy (D-CT), with significant involvement from Sen. \u200dKyrsten \u200dSinema (I-AZ). The discussions have primarily focused\u200c on changes to federal asylum policy and the utilization\u2062 of \u200d<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-seeks-to-solve-border-crisis-by-making-it-easier-to-enter-the-united-states\/\" title=\"Biden Seeks To Fix Border Crisis-- by Making It Simpler To Go Into the United States\">humanitarian parole authority<\/a> by \u200cthe\u200b Biden administration. Additionally, there have been reports of the White House\u200b proposing a new \u200bborder expulsion law and\u2064 an increase \u200cin <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/lindsey-graham-says-senate-not-anywhere-close-to-reaching-ukraine-border-deal\/\" title=\"Lindsey Graham: Senate far from Ukraine-border agreement\">mandatory detention rates<\/a> as \u200cpart of the \u2062negotiations.<\/p>\n<p>Working alongside\u2064 Murphy, Lankford, and Sinema are Sens. \u2063Michael Bennet (D-CO), \u200dThom\u2062 Tillis (R-NC), and \u2063Lindsey Graham\u200d (R-SC), all of whom are \u2063Caucasian. This has raised concerns among several Hispanic \u200dlawmakers, including\u2062 Sens. Alex \u2063Padilla (D-CA) and Bob Menendez \u200c(D-NJ), the latter of whom led the bipartisan immigration talks \u2063in the\u2064 Senate\u2062 that resulted in the 2013\u200c deal that ultimately failed in \u200dthe\u2063 House.<\/p>\n<p>When asked about this\u2062 issue, Murphy stated, &#8220;Ultimately, we&#8217;re \u200btrying to \u2064craft something that gets a big \u200cbipartisan \u2063vote and that obviously can&#8217;t happen unless you&#8217;re \u2062listening to your \u2063colleagues.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\">Click here<\/a> to read more from the Washington Examiner.<\/p>\n<p> <\/p>\n<h2> How did CHC members argue against the\u200c proposal to \u200ballocate funds for expanding border wall construction and what alternative approach did they propose?<\/h2>\n<p><span>  Major concern voiced by CHC\u2062 members during the Zoom call was the inclusion of increased border enforcement measures in \u200bthe negotiations.\u200c The members raised alarm over the potential militarization of the border and the negative impact it could have on immigrant \u200dcommunities.<\/p>\n<p>One of the key issues discussed\u200d was the \u200cproposal to allocate funds for expanding border wall construction. CHC members argued that such a measure would not only be\u200c a\u2064 waste\u200d of \u200dresources\u200d but \u200bwould\u2064 also perpetuate harmful stereotypes about immigrants. They emphasized the need for a more comprehensive and humane approach to border security that focuses on addressing root causes of migration and investing in the social and economic development of Central American\u2063 countries.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally,\u2062 CHC members\u2064 expressed concerns about the treatment of migrants at the border. They highlighted the urgent need to address the humanitarian\u200c crisis unfolding in facilities holding migrant children. Members stressed the importance of\u200b ensuring proper care and adequate resources for these vulnerable individuals, as well as establishing a fair and \u200defficient process for asylum seekers.<\/p>\n<p>Another critical issue raised during the \u200dmeeting was\u200d the impact of border enforcement policies on family reunification. CHC members voiced their opposition to measures that separate families at \u200dthe border, emphasizing the need\u200d to protect the rights and well-being of immigrant families. They called for policies that prioritize keeping families together and providing them with legal avenues to\u200b seek asylum and citizenship.<\/p>\n<p>The Zoom call also provided an opportunity for CHC members to emphasize the importance \u200dof including\u2063 the \u2063perspectives and experiences of the Hispanic community in decision-making processes. They urged the Biden administration and congressional leaders to consult with diverse voices\u200d and\u200c ensure that any policies \u2064and reforms reflect the needs and values of the Hispanic community.<\/p>\n<p>In closing, CHC members reiterated their commitment\u2064 to \u2063working towards a just and equitable immigration system that upholds human rights and dignity.
