These magazines, though, are standard sizes\u2062 for the gun industry, so \u2063the ban is not eliminating \u201clarge capacity\u201d devices, but normal, everyday \u2062ones. \u2064The \u200dlaw also requires citizens \u200cwho already own weapons and accouterments covered by the law to register themselves with the Illinois State Police by Jan. 1, when the law is set to take \u200beffect.<\/p>\n<p>The left-wing, \u2063Democrat-controlled \u200bstate legislature\u200b passed the bill and it was signed into law by Democrat Gov. J.B. Pritzker in 2022. The law was \u200bhastily passed after a maniac \u2064used a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bail-fund-praised-by-kamala-harris-has-twice-freed-the-same-rioter-he-was-just-charged-again\/\" title=\"Bail Fund Praised By Kamala Harris Has Twice Freed The Same Rioter. He Was Just Charged Again.\">semi-automatic rifle<\/a> \u2062to kill seven people and\u2063 wound 48 \u2063during\u200d an Independence Day\u2064 parade in the Chicago area\u200c town of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/highland-park-ban-ar-15s-ak-47s-didnt-stop-fourth-july-shooting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Highland Park<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The \u2063Supreme Court\u2019s\u200c rule is the third time those suing the\u2063 state to stop the law have failed to\u200b convince a court to block the law while their lawsuit goes on.<\/p>\n<p>The 7th District U.S. Court \u200dof Appeals in Chicago \u2064voted to uphold the\u2064 law in November, ruling that\u2063 the law properly distinguishes between legally owned \u200dfirearms and those reserved for \u200c\u201ctrained professionals,\u201d meaning semiautomatic weapons, including the popular \u200bAR-15, and can lawfully be banned, the <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/illinois-semiautomatic-gun-law-9158e2a4c7aed59e5a21cd0974a99cbf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Associated Press<\/a> \u2062reported.<\/p>\n<p>The \u2063Democrat-dominated Illinois Supreme Court also upheld the law in\u200d August.<\/p>\n<p>The state supreme court\u2019s ruling \u2063came after Trump-appointed \u2062Judge Stephen\u200c McGlynn of the Southern District\u2062 of Illinois <a href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.ilsd.94369\/gov.uscourts.ilsd.94369.45.0.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ruled<\/a> that the\u200d law <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/federal-judge-halts-states-new-assault-weapon-ban-cites-likely-second-amendment-violation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cannot be enforced<\/a> \u2063 until a \u2062ruling\u2062 is made on its constitutionality.<\/p>\n<p>However, this does not mean that the law is a legal order because \u2063it\u200c is still\u2064 being heard by a lower court.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the penchant of these courts to uphold the outrageous ban and \u2064self-registration rules,\u2064 it appears\u2064 that relatively few Illinois gun owners are complying. Thus \u2062far, only about 0.1 percent \u200bof the 2.4 million registered gun owners\u200b in the \u200cstate have registered their firearms as required by the new law \u2014 amounting to only about\u200d 3,400 registrations \u2062\u2014 the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/politics\/ct-illinois-gun-ban-registration-update-20231124-25fryiwbuffvxcob2napmzoge4-story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chicago \u2064Tribune<\/a> reported in November.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, a large number of\u2064 sheriffs in Illinois\u2019\u200d 102 \u200ccounties \u200bhave already warned\u2063 that they will\u200c refuse to enforce\u2062 this gun ban\u200b in their \u2062jurisdictions.<\/p>\n<p>In January of this\u200b year,\u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/half-states-sheriffs-defy-gun-ban-tell-lib-gov-pound-sand\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">more than half<\/a> \u200cthe\u200b sheriffs had\u2063 already signaled that they \u200cwon\u2019t enforce the \u200bban.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>LaSalle County Sheriff\u200d Adam Diss said the radical <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/many-firearms-illegal-gun-ban-bills-new-definition-assault-weapon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">gun ban<\/a> is a \u201cclear violation of the 2nd Amendment to the US\u2064 Constitution.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>The Illinois ban absolutely seems to violate the very \u2063\u201cshall not be infringed\u201d clause of the Second Amendment, especially with its rule that only supposedly \u201ctrained\u201d people \u2014 \u200csuch as soldiers and cops \u2014 be allowed to \u200cown a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/gun-grab-democrat-senators-push-new-bill-to-restrict-semi-automatic-firearms\/\" title=\"Democrat Senators propose bill to limit semi-automatic firearms\">semi-automatic\u200d firearm<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>After all, the Founding \u200dFathers wanted all Americans who could be \u200dcalled to the militia to have the same\u2063 firearms \u200bas \u200dthe U.S. military. That was \u2064the main point of \u200dthe amendment, after all.<\/p>\n<p>But with this law that maintains only state operatives may own the firearms in question, that is a clear violation of the spirit of the \u200cConstitution and in fact runs contrary to the\u200d very idea that\u200b the people \u2063reign supreme. In this law, the government owns and rules the people,\u200d not\u200b the other way around, as the Founders \u200bintended.<\/p>\n<p>This is a temporary defeat \u200cfor lawful gun owners\u2063 and Americans everywhere \u2014 not\u2063 just\u200b in Illinois.
