But she\u2062 imagines the woman is a young mother like her and wonders how she could have been so\u200b cruel. Like <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/national-security\/just-as-cruel-as-the-terrorists-many-ordinary-palestinians-joined-in-hamass-atrocities-against-israel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">many survivors<\/a> of Hamas&#8217;s surprise attack from Gaza, Yohanan no longer believes coexistence with\u200b the Palestinians is possible.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s very hard\u200b for me as a mother to think about a woman who \u200bcame to my home and saw the pictures of my kids and still came to steal and\u2063 to terrify my kids,&#8221; Yohanan told the <em>Washington \u200bFree Beacon<\/em> \u2064at \u200ba hotel in this Red Sea\u2062 resort city where her family relocated along with most of the kibbutz. &#8220;I never thought the common people, kids and women, would participate in things like that. It broke my\u200c faith in the goodness of people, especially people from Gaza.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Yohanan, an elementary\u2063 school English teacher and \u200clifelong resident of Nir Oz, said she &#8220;always hoped for peace&#8221; and \u2064for the Palestinians to get their own state. She believed\u200c that ordinary Gazans were\u2063 victims of Hamas, the terrorist group that has governed Gaza for most \u2063of \u2062two decades.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re a\u200d very peace-loving community. \u200dThe country, they always make fun of us that \u2062we&#8217;re very people-loving\u200c and \u2064we want peace,&#8221; she \u200bsaid,\u200b noting that\u200d several members of the kibbutz regularly drove Palestinian children from \u2063the border of\u200c Gaza,\u200d less than two miles away, to Israeli hospitals for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/dr-faucis-economic-lockdowns-killed-267000-infants-in-low-and-middle-income-countries\/\" title=\"Dr. Fauci\u2019s Economic Lockdowns Killed 267,000 Infants in Low and Middle-Income Countries\">life-saving medical care<\/a>. &#8220;I really believed that Hamas kidnapped Gaza.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>One \u200dof the first things the Gazan woman did\u200c when she entered Yohanan&#8217;s house was \u200bturn off the electricity\u200c in the safe room. So for 12 \u200bhours, until the Israeli Army finally arrived to evacuate them, Yohanan,\u2064 her husband, and their two children, ages six and eight, were\u200d trapped in sweltering \u2064heat.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;My kids were \u200cbegging for water,&#8221; Yohanan recalled.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Meanwhile, the woman &#8220;turned on Netflix\u200c and changed it to \u200bArabic,&#8221; Yohanan said.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;She watched TV. She \u2063opened the fridge and heated up food. She drank Coke, and \u2063she talked to [her terrorist companions]: \u2018Do\u2062 you want Coke?\u200d Do\u200d you \u2063want coffee? They spent like five \u200chours \u2063in my house, sitting on\u200b the sofa and just relaxing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Terrorists \u2063also\u200b occasionally shot at and banged on the safe room\u200c door, and they killed the family&#8217;s dog. When the woman left, she took Yohanan&#8217;s jewelry, makeup, underwear, shoes, sunglasses, and passports, as well as her children&#8217;s \u2064clothing and \u2063toys.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;I think about it \u200ba lot, that maybe she looks like me, that she&#8217;s a young\u2064 mother,&#8221; Yohanan\u2063 said. &#8220;It \u200dwas very hard for us to know that regular people, people we \u2062thought are not involved \u2062in the \u2062conflict, came just because they had an opportunity to plunder, to steal.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to a dozen members of Nir Oz, Gazan women and <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/national-security\/children-as-young-as-10-took-part-in-hamass-oct-7-terror-attack-survivors-say\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">children as young as 10 years old<\/a> followed Hamas terrorists into the kibbutz on Oct. 7, looting, helping the armed terrorists, and apparently enjoying themselves.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;Basically it was sort of an invasion of a community,&#8221; Irit Lahav, a 68-year-old tour guide and\u200b peace activist from the kibbutz,\u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/israel\/irit-lahav-nir-oz-survivor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> the <em>Free Beacon<\/em>. &#8220;That&#8217;s why for me, I cannot say this was a Hamas action. No, for me, this \u200cwas a Palestinian action. A whole community had come to our kibbutz, took our\u2062 things, \u200cstole\u2064 stuff, killed people, and kidnapped others.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Yohanan&#8217;s\u200c father was \u200damong at least 46 people from Nir Oz who were killed by terrorists on or after Oct. 7. \u200bHe was\u200c shot while trying to hold shut the door of \u200chis\u2063 safe \u2063room. Many of\u2062 Yohanan&#8217;s students and friends were also murdered. Across \u2063southern Israel, some 1,200 people were killed, \u200dmost of them\u2064 civilians.<\/p>\n<p>More than 70 of the some 240 hostages taken on that day were also from Nir Oz.\u200b Thirty of the hostages have since been\u2063 released during Israel&#8217;s ongoing war to destroy Hamas.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;We have this sense of \u2064we want revenge, which is a horrible,\u2062 horrible feeling,&#8221; Yohanan said.\u2063 &#8220;I find myself\u2063 showing my son\u200b video of houses being bombed in Gaza because I want \u2064to show him that Israel \u2064is\u2063 still strong. I want to show him that the army is strong, that someone is protecting us because he doesn&#8217;t feel it anymore.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Yohanan said her son is waiting for the next terror \u2062attack. Every night, he asks Yohanan\u2064 if she locked the doors and windows.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;He is very mad \u200dat \u2063me that our house was completely\u2062 open [on Oct. 7],&#8221; Yohanan said. &#8220;I can&#8217;t say I&#8217;m not afraid as well.\u2064 From my hotel room, I see an amazing view of the ocean and Jordan, and I think to myself, \u2062can they come? Are we safe here?&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The general consensus among the Nir Oz survivors is\u200b that\u2062 they would like to \u2062return to the kibbutz, but only after the threat from Gaza has been dealt\u200c with. And nobody knows exactly what that\u200c means.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;I don&#8217;t\u200d want Hamas to exist anymore. \u2063I want the normal, the good people in Gaza\u2063 to rule. I want someone who my \u2062country can talk to.\u2063 Right now, it sounds like \u200cit will never happen, but I want to \u2064believe for my kids,&#8221; Yohanan said. &#8220;I \u2064don&#8217;t\u2063 want my kids to live in the \u2062same world\u2064 that I do.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><em>(Videography by Orel Revivo; video editing by Daniel Binsted)<\/em><\/p>\n<p> <\/p>\n<h2> \u200c What does the coordinated attack by Hamas, using civilians as shields, reveal about the tactics and strategies employed by terrorist groups?<\/h2>\n<p><span>  Y Hamas\u2063 terrorists during the\u2063 attack. She remembers him as a kind and peaceful \u2062man who always believed in coexistence \u2063between Israelis and Palestinians. Yohanan&#8217;s experiences on that fateful day shattered her belief in\u200d the\u200c possibility \u200bof peace.<\/p>\n<p>The incident in Yohanan&#8217;s house was not an isolated \u200done. Many other residents of Nir Oz experienced similar intrusions and\u200c looting. It was a coordinated attack by Hamas, using civilians as shields and\u200c exploiting their vulnerability to carry out their heinous acts.<\/p>\n<p>The fact that women and children were willingly participating in the attack is deeply\u200d disturbing. It raises questions about the indoctrination and brainwashing that takes place within Palestinian society. How\u200b could a mother, who is supposed to nurture and \u2062protect her children, willingly \u2063participate in acts of violence and terror?<\/p>\n<p>The\u200b attack on \u2062Nir\u2062 Oz and \u200bthe involvement of civilians demonstrate\u200d the complexity and intractability of the \u200cIsraeli-Palestinian \u2062conflict. \u200bIt is not just a political or\u200d territorial dispute; it is deeply rooted in the hearts and minds of the people. It \u2062is a battle for narratives and identities, where \u2062both sides feel justified in their\u2062 actions\u2064 and see the \u2063other as the enemy.<\/p>\n<p>For Yohanan and many others in Nir \u200bOz, the attack shattered their illusions of peace \u200band coexistence. They can no longer trust \u200dor believe in the Palestinian people as a whole. The trauma they experienced has left scars that\u200d may never fully heal. They now feel a deep\u200d sense \u2064of betrayal\u200d and \u200cfear, unsure of their own\u200d safety and the future of their children.<\/p>\n<p>The attack on Yohanan&#8217;s house is a heartbreaking reminder of the \u200ddevastating consequences \u200dof violence and hatred. Innocent lives are lost, families are torn apart, and communities are \u200cleft in fear and despair.
