The incident, which occurred on\u200c Tuesday night, also left fourteen other Marines injured, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ocregister.com\/2023\/12\/13\/one-marine-dead-others-injured-in-acv-rollover-at-camp-pendleton\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Orange County Register<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>All of\u2063 the \u2062affected Marines \u2064were part of the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, but their names have not been released by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/marine-recruit-18-dead-collapsing-training-exercise-camp-pendleton\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Marines<\/a>. The tragic incident took place near Camp Horno,\u200b located \u200bon\u2064 the \u2063northern end of the base. The vehicle was engaged in a ground movement during training when\u200c it rolled\u2063 over on steep terrain at\u200d approximately\u2064 6 p.m., as reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsandiego.com\/news\/local\/marine-killed-in-amphibious-vehicle-rollover-crash-14-others-injured-usmc\/3379734\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">KSND-TV<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Amphibious \u2063Combat Vehicles\u2063 have\u2064 had a troubled history. \u200cInitially\u200c deployed\u2062 in 2020, their use was temporarily <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinecorpstimes.com\/news\/your-marine-corps\/2021\/09\/03\/saftey-issue-stops-waterborne-ops-for-marine-amphibious-combat-vehicle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">halted<\/a> due to \u2064concerns regarding the\u2062 towing\u2063 mechanism. In July 2022, two separate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/marine-killed-homicide-military-base-suspect-custody\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">accidents<\/a> \u200dinvolving these vehicles led to a suspension \u2063of their use in\u200b waterborne operations. \u200bAlthough they were later reintroduced, another \u200daccident prompted their removal once again.<\/p>\n<p>A congressional report from\u2064 2022 revealed that\u2063 more U.S. troops lost their lives in accidents than in\u200d combat. In January, the commander \u200cof the Marines&#8217; Assault Amphibian School was relieved of \u200bduty after\u2062 an\u200d Amphibious Combat \u200cVehicle rolled over \u200din\u200b the surf. Fortunately, no one was injured\u200b in that particular incident.\u200d However, in 2020, Marine 1st \u200cLt.
