Unfortunately, the one inn that would be able to provide that warmth and shelter was full, leaving\u200d the woman no other place to give birth\u2064 but in a lowly manger surrounded by the animals that fed there.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Now,\u200d each \u200cyear on \u200bDecember 25th we gather with \u200cfamily and loved ones, pass gifts, and share in time honored traditions because of the miracle that occurred \u2064that night; the birth of a \u2062precious child. For this one day of the year, people hold\u200d their loved ones a little tighter, \u200blaugh a little louder, \u2062and love\u2062 a little\u2064 deeper \u200dall\u200c because of a woman who faced an unexpected\u200c pregnancy and the miraculous life that \u200bshe brought into\u200c the world.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">While I don\u2019t know how the story would have changed\u2063 if there was room in the inn that cold night, I\u2064 do know \u2062that thousands of pregnant women have had their lives beautifully altered thanks\u200d to the open doors of\u2063 maternity homes across the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Empowering Women, Building Lives<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Homes such as the fittingly\u2062 named Mary\u2019s Shelter in Fredericksburg, Virginia and Bethlehem House in Omaha, Nebraska, exist to \u200chelp women who are \u2064facing poverty, addiction, abuse \u200cand so much \u200dmore while experiencing an unexpected pregnancy. As \u200cthese homes help women to embrace life, they \u2063offer classes, \u200bclothing, materials, and support so that\u2064 new moms feel\u2064 confident to bring a child into \u200bthe world\u200c and care for it. Additionally, they help\u200c women to further their education, recover from\u200d substance abuse, obtain\u2064 a job, find housing, and become strong and successful\u2063 in life and in motherhood.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mary\u2019s \u200bShelter and Bethlehem House are not alone in their\u200c compassionate work, however, over\u2064 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.natlhousingcoalition.org\/images\/NMHC-Brochure.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">400 \u200ccommunity-based maternity homes<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">  exist across the\u200c nation to empower and support\u2063 women while\u200c providing them with \u2062an\u200b abundance of love and shelter.
