Led\u200b by Bob Ferguson of Washington state and \u2062Letitia James of New York, this coalition of 21 attorney generals\u200b has \u200bsigned an amicus \u200cbrief aimed at blocking\u200d legislation in Idaho that prohibits transgender students from using bathrooms that \u200calign \u2062with their preferred gender\u200d identity.<\/p>\n<p>In \u2064a news release, Ferguson\u200c emphasized the importance of allowing\u200b students\u200c to use facilities\u200c that correspond with their\u200b gender identity, stating that it helps\u2063 them feel accepted and poses no threat to anyone.\u2064 The release also \u2064highlighted that \u2063in Washington, where transgender student\u2062 rights are protected, there have been no reported instances of transgender students harassing \u2062others in bathrooms \u200dor locker rooms.<\/p>\n<p>The\u200b coalition argues that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/pennsylvania-principal-threatens-to-punish-students-protesting-transgender-bathroom-policy\/\" title=\"PA principal warns of consequences for students protesting transgender bathroom policy.\">denying transgender students access<\/a> to their preferred restrooms violates federal civil rights \u200claws. \u200cThey believe that ensuring transgender people have access to public \u200bfacilities consistent with their gender identity benefits everyone without compromising safety or privacy.<\/p>\n<p>This \u200deffort comes after a \u2063lawsuit was filed \u2062by Boise High School&#8217;s Sexuality \u200band Gender Alliance \u2062and a transgender student against Senate Bill 1100 in Idaho. The bill, passed by Idaho&#8217;s Republican trifecta, allows students to sue schools for $5,000 every time a transgender \u200cstudent is found using a\u2062 bathroom that \u2062does\u2063 not correspond to their sex.<\/p>\n<p>Despite a preliminary\u2063 injunction being \u200drejected, the coalition remains\u2063 determined to fight for transgender rights.
