Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey is launching an investigation into Media Matters for America, accusing them of engaging in potentially unlawful business practices. The organization is alleged to have used fraudulent tactics to pressure advertisers \u2062into severing ties with X,\u200d the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.<\/p>\n

In\u200b a letter<\/a> \u2062announcing the investigation, Bailey expressed concern that Media Matters’ actions may violate consumer protection laws<\/a><\/a> in \u2063Missouri, which prohibit\u200d nonprofits from soliciting funds under false pretenses. He emphasized that targeting the last platform dedicated to free speech in America could hinder freedom of expression.<\/p>\n

“If proven\u200b true, Media Matters’ actions \u2064have not \u200bonly\u200c harmed free speech by targeting\u200d a pro-free speech platform<\/a>, but they have also defrauded the people of Missouri,” Bailey stated<\/a>.<\/p>\n
