Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) and Rep. Vicky Hartzler (R-MO). She \u2062further criticized\u2062 the fact\u200b that while small businesses struggled during the\u200b pandemic, Planned Parenthood\u200c unlawfully received over $90 million from the Paycheck Protection Program, which was intended to assist small businesses.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The\u200c request for \u2064the GAO report\u200d was signed \u2064by 142 senators and representatives in January of last year.\u200d During the period from 2019 to 2021, Planned\u2063 Parenthood\u2063 and its affiliates performed 1.11 \u2064million \u200dabortions, receiving\u200b approximately\u200d $1.78 billion in\u200c taxpayer money. These funds included reimbursements from government programs\u2063 like Medicaid, \u2062Medicare, and the Children&#8217;s \u2063Health Insurance Program, as well as \u200dstate-level public funding.<\/p>\n<p>Planned Parenthood&#8217;s funding \u200dprimarily \u2062came from Medicaid, \u200cMedicare, and CHIP, totaling \u2063$1.53\u200b billion\u2062 during the\u200c specified \u200cyears.\u200c Additionally,\u200d the organization received $148.5 million in federal grants and cooperative agreements, along with $90.41 million from the Paycheck\u2064 Protection Program, which\u2062 was intended for small businesses with \u2063fewer than 500\u200b employees. However, \u2063Planned Parenthood and its affiliates\u2062 employ over 16,000 individuals nationwide.<\/p>\n<p>Under the Biden administration, funding\u200b for Planned Parenthood specifically \u2063increased from $5.71 million to\u200b $27.06 million through the \u200dDepartment\u200d of\u2063 Health and Human Services, marking a 373% rise. This occurred after the administration\u200c rescinded \u200dthe Trump-era Protect Life\u200b Rule for\u200d Title X programs, \u2064which prohibited federal funding recipients from referring women to abortion providers.<\/p>\n<p>Other organizations advocating \u200cfor legal\u200c abortion, such as \u200bFPA \u2064Women&#8217;s Health, \u200dAmerican Women&#8217;s Services, All Women&#8217;s Health Center, and\u200c Whole Woman&#8217;s Health, also received\u2062 tax funds amounting to \u2062$107.74 million from 2019\u2062 to\u200b 2021. \u2064The\u2064 report also\u2063 revealed that taxpayers funded abortion globally, with the\u2063 International Planned Parenthood Federation receiving $2.03 million and MSI Reproductive Choices\u200c receiving $1.35 \u200bmillion.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>Strong Opposition to Taxpayer Funding for Abortion<\/h3>\n<p>Rep. Chris Smith, co-chairman of the Congressional Pro-Life Caucus,\u200b expressed his concern over the GAO report&#8217;s findings. &#8220;GAO \u200cfound \u2062that Planned \u200bParenthood received \u200da whopping $1.78 billion between 2019-2021 while the nation was struggling\u200c with the COVID-19 pandemic,&#8221; \u2064he stated. Smith emphasized that this included\u2064 $90.14 million in forgivable\u2064 loans \u200cthrough the Paycheck Protection Program, funds that could have supported struggling\u2062 small businesses.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Former President Donald Trump\u200b implemented\u200b the &#8220;Protecting Life in Global Health \u2064Assistance&#8221; rule, which aimed to prevent U.S.\u2064 taxpayer money from\u200d supporting foreign organizations\u200c that promote abortion. However, President Joe Biden repealed the policy shortly after taking office.<\/p>\n<p>A \u2062Marist survey conducted earlier this \u2064year revealed that 60% of the\u200c public opposes or strongly opposes taxpayer \u200bfunding for abortions domestically, while 78%\u200b feel\u2062 the\u200c same way\u200d about funding abortions abroad.
