Illegal Immigrant Arrested \u2064in ‘Capital Murder’ of 16-Year-Old\u200b Cheerleader<\/h2>\n
I suspect that all parents in the \u2064United States struggle with an\u2064 escalated fear of the cold-blooded murder\u200c of their children.\u2063 I \u2064use the word \u201cescalated\u201d because our president and \u2063his \u2064administration have insisted that our southern border remain open<\/a>.<\/p>\n
In doing nothing to \u2063close it,\u2063 they\u2019ve forced all of us to exist in a state \u200dof high\u2063 alert. The homicide of 16-year-old Lizbeth Medina \u200dshould remind parents\u2064 of this.<\/p>\n
Her mother, Jacqueline Medina, should be planning a wonderful Christmas. Instead, she is planning her\u2064 daughter\u2019s funeral.<\/p>\n
According to KRIV-TV<\/a> in Houston, Jacqueline\u200b Medina \u2062found her \u2063daughter\u2019s lifeless body in the bathtub of their apartment in Edna, Texas, on Tuesday. She had \u2062been stabbed, according\u2063 to KHOU-TV<\/a> in Houston. A police news release<\/a> \u200b immediately declared the death as a “capital murder” case at the outset of the investigation. That \u2063put \u200bthe death penalty \u2063on \u200cthe table as a potential punishment.<\/p>\n
Five \u200ddays later, an illegal alien identified\u200d as \u200c23-year-old Rafael Govea Romero has been charged in the case. His bail is set at\u200d $2 million, according to ABC News<\/a>.<\/p>\n
On the day of her\u200c daughter\u2019s death, Jacqueline\u200b Medina\u200b went to work about 6 a.m. thinking\u2063 she would see Lizbeth perform with \u200bher Edna High\u2062 School cheerleading squad\u200b in the Edna Christmas parade that \u2063evening.<\/p>\n
But when Jacqueline \u2062Medina arrived at the parade after\u200b work, only to\u200d find her daughter absent, she began to\u200b worry. She\u2064 told Fox News<\/a> she called her daughter frantically. She received no response.<\/p>\n
The panic must have been staggering. She\u2019d \u2064later \u200dlearn that none\u2064 of Lizbeth\u2019s friends\u2063 had heard from\u200d Lizbeth \u2064after 7:30 a.m. that day. It drove Medina \u200cto \u200dsearch for her daughter at home in the apartment where\u200c they lived.<\/p>\n
It \u2064is a moment \u2062that can hardly be \u2062lived through \u2062once. \u200bJacqueline\u200c Medina will undoubtedly be living through it over and over \u2062for the rest\u2064 of her life. And questioning what she could \u200bhave done differently, even if the true answer was \u200bnothing.<\/p>\n
The Medinas moved to the small town \u2064made up of 6,000 residents a year ago for \u200ca\u200b new job, according to a GoFundMe<\/a> page set \u2062up\u200b by \u200cLizbeth Medina\u2019s \u200daunt, Ana Medina.\u2063 Jacqueline was keeping \u2063up with the bills while Lizbeth was enjoying new\u2062 friends\u200c and a new school. Known as a good kid, the teenager adjusted well to her unfamiliar surroundings, just 100 \u200bmiles outside of\u2062 Houston.<\/p>\n
How Romero arrived into the mix remains to be seen, as does whether or not he even knew Lizbeth Medina before her death. Police have not said\u200c if the two had any kind of relationship, according\u200c to ABC.<\/p>\n
The Edna Police \u2062Department\u2063 on Sunday announced the arrest of Romero. According to ABC, a statement by police Chief Rick Boone described Romera as \u2064an \u201cundocumented male\u201d who was\u200c in the country on an expired visa. With an expired \u2064visa, \u200bRomero shouldn\u2019t even \u2063have been in the \u2063country, much less getting arrested on suspicion\u2063 of \u2062murder.<\/p>\n
Romero seemed to fit the description \u200bprovided by \u2064Edna police and the Texas Rangers, according\u2064 to KTRK-TV<\/a>. The \u200bman\u2063 seen \u200cleaving the area of the Medinas\u2019 apartment was described as\u2063 having a possible tattoo \u2062behind his ear, wearing \u200ca black\u2063 hooded sweatshirt and driving a silver Ford Taurus according to a news\u200d release<\/a>.<\/p>\n
According to \u2063KTRK, Boone stated that \u201cofficers seized a motor vehicle and items of evidence\u2063 tending to connect this suspect Romero to the murder of Lizbeth Medina.\u201d He didn\u2019t disclose the nature\u200d of the evidence leading the police to believe Romero killed Medina.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Another news release<\/a> shared by the police \u2062department announced that \u201cAlthough Romero is apprehended, we recognize Lizbeth\u2019s family and friends are grieving and still need support from the community. \u2064The citizens of Edna can \u200cnow sleep in peace!\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
No, they can\u2019t. None of us can\u200d because\u2063 there are plenty\u200c of undocumented illegals running around free just like Romero, compliments of <\/p>\n

How can \u200dsociety find a balance between compassion and security\u200c in\u2062 order to \u2063create \u200ca system that protects citizens while still welcoming law-abiding immigrants<\/h2>\n
