Her mother, Jacqueline Medina, should be planning a wonderful Christmas. Instead, \u2064she is\u200d planning her daughter\u2019s funeral.<\/p>\n
According to KRIV-TV<\/a> in Houston, Jacqueline Medina found her daughter\u2019s \u200blifeless body in the\u200b bathtub of their \u2062apartment in\u2062 Edna, Texas, \u2063on Tuesday.\u200d She had been stabbed, according to KHOU-TV<\/a> in\u2064 Houston.<\/p>\n
An illegal alien identified as \u206423-year-old Rafael Govea Romero\u200c has \u2062been charged with capital murder in\u2063 the case. His\u2062 bail is set\u2062 at $2 million,\u2063 according to ABC News<\/a>.<\/p>\n
On the day of her daughter\u2019s death, Jacqueline Medina went to work about 6 \u2063a.m. thinking she would see Lizbeth perform with\u200d her Edna High School cheerleading squad in the Edna Christmas\u200c parade that evening.<\/p>\n
But \u2063when Jacqueline Medina arrived at the parade after work, only to \u200bfind her daughter absent, she\u2064 began to worry. She told \u200d Fox News<\/a> she \u2064called her daughter\u200b frantically. She received no \u2062response.<\/p>\n
The panic must have been staggering. She\u2019d later learn that none of Lizbeth\u2019s friends had heard from Lizbeth after 7:30 a.m. that day. It drove \u2063Medina to search for her daughter at home in the apartment where they\u200b lived.<\/p>\n
It \u200cis a moment that can hardly be lived through once. Jacqueline Medina\u2064 will undoubtedly be living through it over and \u200cover for the\u2064 rest of her life. And questioning what she could have done differently, even if the true answer was nothing.<\/p>\n
The Medinas moved to the\u200c small town made up of 6,000 residents a year ago for a new job, according to a \u2062 GoFundMe<\/a> page set up by Lizbeth Medina\u2019s aunt, Ana Medina. Jacqueline was keeping up with\u2063 the \u2062bills while Lizbeth was enjoying new\u200d friends and a new school. Known as a good kid, the teenager adjusted well \u200cto\u200b her unfamiliar surroundings, just 100 miles outside of Houston.<\/p>\n
How Romero arrived into the mix\u2063 remains to be seen, as does\u2064 whether or not he even knew Lizbeth Medina \u2063before her death. Police have not said if\u2064 the two had\u200b any\u2063 kind of relationship, according to\u200b ABC.<\/p>\n
The Edna Police Department on Sunday\u2062 announced the arrest of Romero. According \u200bto ABC, a statement by police Chief Rick Boone described Romera as \u2063an \u201cundocumented male\u201d who was in the country on an \u2064expired visa. With an expired visa, Romero shouldn\u2019t\u2063 even have been in the country, much \u2063less getting arrested on suspicion\u200c of murder.<\/p>\n
Romero seemed to fit the description provided by \u200bEdna police \u2064and the Texas Rangers, according to KTRK-TV<\/a>. The man seen leaving the\u200c area of the Medinas\u2019 apartment was described as having a possible tattoo behind his ear, wearing a\u2063 black hooded\u200d sweatshirt\u2062 and driving \u200da silver Ford\u2064 Taurus according to a news release<\/a><\/a>.<\/p>\n
According to KTRK, Boone\u200b stated that \u200c\u201cofficers seized a motor\u2064 vehicle and \u2062items of evidence \u200btending to connect \u200dthis suspect\u2062 Romero \u2063to the murder\u200b of Lizbeth Medina.\u201d He didn\u2019t disclose the nature of the evidence leading the police\u200c to\u2062 believe Romero killed Medina.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
