However, warnings involving fatal illnesses that disproportionately\u200b affect children \u200dand for which reliable treatment \u200cexists, \u200ddeserve \u2063serious attention.<\/p>\n<p>On\u200b Friday, the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued\u2064 a\u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/emergency.cdc.gov\/han\/2023\/han00502.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">health advisory<\/a> regarding an outbreak of Rocky Mountain \u2063spotted fever among some\u2064 in the U.S. who have either \u2064traveled to or lived in\u2063 Tecate, Mexico, a city of more than 100,000 located \u2062just across the U.S.-Mexico border in the Mexican state of\u2062 Baja California.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cChildren younger than 10 years \u2062old are five times more \u2064likely than adults to die from RMSF,\u201d<\/strong> the advisory stated.<\/p>\n<p>According \u2062to \u2062the \u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/rmsf\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CDC<\/a>, \u200bRocky Mountain spotted fever is\u2062 a bacterial \u2062disease \u200cthat\u2019s spread \u200dthrough bites\u2062 of infected ticks. It can cause\u2064 fever, headache, and rash, and can be \u2064deadly if not\u2062 treated \u2063with antibiotics.<\/p>\n<p>Between late July and\u2062 early December, southern California hospitals treated five patients with the disease, the advisory states. The CDC\u2062 identified four of those five \u2064patients as 18 years old or\u200d younger. Three of\u200c the five patients died. All five \u2062had\u200b developed\u200b symptoms within two weeks of travel to Tecate.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, nearly everything about this disease places victims in a dangerous position and health-care providers in a difficult \u2064one.<\/p>\n<p>For instance, although the\u2064 disease comes from ticks, the CDC advisory states\u2062 that \u201cmany patients do not \u200drecall being bitten by a tick.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/5-financial-bubbles-that-made-gamestop-look-like-nothing\/\" title=\"5 Financial \u2018Bubbles\u2019 That Made Gamestop Look Like Nothing\">make matters worse<\/a>, \u2064early signs \u200cinclude common symptoms such as \u200cabdominal\u200c pain that are uncomfortable but \u2062might not seem threatening. According \u2062to the CDC advisory, in\u200b fact, half of \u2064all fatalities \u2062occur \u201cwithin \u200beight days of illness onset.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUntreated disease is \u2064often\u2062 fatal, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/white-house-releases-list-of-president-trumps-accomplishments-and-it-is-historic\/\" title=\"White House Releases List of President Trump\u2019s Accomplishments \u2013  And It Is Historic!\">case fatality rate<\/a> of RMSF in Mexico can exceed \u200b40%,\u201d the\u2062 advisory stated.<\/p>\n<p>The advisory does contain\u2063 one bit of encouraging news. There\u2019s no\u200d need\u200d to wait on research, for reliable medication already exists.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEarly\u2064 treatment with doxycycline saves lives,\u201d the advisory stated.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/baja-california-mexico-exposure-deadly-rocky-mountain-spotted-fever-cdc-warns-travelers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CBS<\/a>, those three RMSF fatalities included a San Diego, California,\u2064 resident who died in November.
