Chris Murphy (D., Conn.) <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/senate\/4352509-senate-democrat-says-hunter-biden-prosecution-is-legally-justified\/\">said<\/a> of the prosecution, \u200din an interview with <em>The<\/em> <em>Hill<\/em>. &#8220;I think this is a\u2064 very <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ricky-martins-nephew-withdraws-incest-claims-against-singer-martin-releases-statement\/\" title=\"Ricky Martin\u2019s Nephew Withdraws Incest Claims Against Singer; Martin Releases Statement\">troubled individual<\/a> \u200dwho has, who \u2063has done things\u2063 that are worthy of \u2064prosecution, and so I look forward to that case\u200c continuing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Department of Justice <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/biden-administration\/hunter-biden-indicted-on-nine-charges-of-tax-evasion\/\">filed<\/a> three felony and six <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrat-head-of-floridas-pandemic-response-rips-rebekah-jones-disinformation-campaign-against-ron-desantis\/\" title=\"Democrat Head Of Florida\u2019s Pandemic Response Rips Rebekah Jones\u2019 \u2018Disinformation Campaign\u2019 Against Ron DeSantis\">misdemeanor charges related<\/a> to\u200c tax crimes against\u2064 Hunter Biden on Thursday. Abbe Lowell, Hunter Biden&#8217;s lawyer, responded to the charges by claiming that &#8220;if Hunter\u2019s last name was\u200b anything other than \u200dBiden, \u200dthe charges in Delaware, and now\u2064 California, would not have been brought.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Murphy rejected that defense,\u200c but he also said\u200d the American people would differentiate between \u2064the president and his\u200d son when voting.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;Ultimately, the American people understand that Hunter \u2064Biden is\u2063 not going to be on the ballot next fall\u2014that\u200d Joe Biden is going to be\u2064 on the ballot,&#8221; Murphy told <em>The<\/em> <em>Hill<\/em>, &#8220;and that this\u200d is a president who has led an economic recovery that has\u2062 been pretty unprecedented.\u200b That\u2019s\u200b I think going to be what matters to the American people.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Murphy added\u2064 that he believed the American \u2062public will see \u200dHunter Biden &#8220;held accountable in court for any violations\u200b of\u200c the law that he\u2019s committed&#8221;\u200b and that Americans will &#8220;see a\u2063 distinct contrast between Joe Biden \u200band Donald Trump.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A Harvard University \u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/latest-news\/60-believe-biden-participated-in-hunters-business-dealings-poll\/\">poll<\/a> conducted last month shows a majority of Americans associate Joe Biden with \u200chis \u200bson&#8217;s finances. Sixty\u2064 percent of respondents said they believe the president participated\u200c in Hunter Biden&#8217;s business dealings.<\/p>\n<p>The Justice Department alleged Thursday that \u200cHunter \u200cBiden between 2016 and \u200c2019 failed to pay at least $1.4 million in taxes he owed, \u200bwhile he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/hunter-biden-indicted-on-nine-charges-of-tax-evasion\/\" title=\"Hunter Biden faces nine charges of tax evasion\">spent exorbitant amounts<\/a> of money, including\u2064 on drugs and prostitutes.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s the second round of charges Hunter\u2063 Biden has received since Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed U.S. Attorney for the District of\u200c Delaware David \u2062Weiss as a special counsel \u200din the investigation into the \u2063first \u200cson. Weiss <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/latest-news\/hunter-biden-criminally-charged-by-special-counsel\/\">charged<\/a> the president&#8217;s son with \u200d<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/hunter-biden-doesnt-want-to-show-up-in-person-for-felony-gun-arraignment\/\" title=\"Hunter Biden refuses to attend felony gun arraignment in person.\">felony gun \u200ccharges<\/a> in September.<\/p>\n<p>Murphy&#8217;s \u200cSunday comments are in line with a trend that <em>Politico<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2023\/09\/13\/house-dems-impeachment-strategy-hunter-biden-00115769\">reported<\/a> on just before Weiss brought the September gun charges: Democrats\u200b have acknowledged Hunter Biden&#8217;s troubled past while attempting\u2062 to separate his record from that of his father.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Hunter Biden may have very\u2063 well done some improper things. He\u2019s a disturbed man. Almost every president \u2063has had problematic \u2063family \u2063members,&#8221; Rep. Jerry\u2063 Nadler \u2063(D., N.Y.) said at\u200d the \u2064time.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p> <\/p>\n<h2> How does Murphy&#8217;s endorsement of the charges against Hunter Biden challenge the\u200d perception\u2062 that all Democrats support Joe Biden&#8217;s family?<\/h2>\n<p><span>  Been relentlessly \u200dfocused on them and their \u2062needs, and, you know, I \u200djust think Americans \u2064are really smart. They understand that this is an attempt to distract from the good work that the president is doing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Despite endorsing the charges against Hunter Biden, Murphy emphasized\u200c that he believes the prosecution should \u200dnot have\u200b any political implications for President Joe Biden.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;I don\u2019t see this as having any impact on President Biden&#8217;s \u200cpolitical standing or his ability to communicate on the big things,&#8221; Murphy said. &#8220;Again, this is going to be an important case \u200band one that has to run its \u200dcourse, but at the \u2062end of \u200cthe day,\u2063 I\u2064 think that this is a \u200dfamily matter for the Bidens \u200band not one that will have political consequences.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Murphy&#8217;s endorsement of the charges against Hunter Biden takes on added significance as a Democratic senator, as it challenges the\u200b notion\u200c that all \u2062Democrats are united in defending Joe Biden&#8217;s family. It is worth noting that several Republicans\u200b have been quick to\u200d criticize Hunter Biden and call for investigations into his business dealings, so Murphy&#8217;s endorsement of \u200bthe charges provides a counterpoint to that narrative.<\/p>\n<p>It remains to be seen how this development will impact \u200cHunter Biden&#8217;s legal case and\u200b Joe Biden&#8217;s presidency.
