Version: 4.0.47--><h2>Venezuela&#8217;s Plan for Neighboring Country Gets\u200c Complicated as US Aircraft Appear Overhead<\/h2>\n<p>He may have faded from the headlines, given that he no longer faces\u2063 a credible threat to \u200bhis dictatorship and fresher international crises have replaced him the headlines, but\u2063 socialist hardliner Nicol\u00e1s Maduro is still\u200b leading Venezuela \u2014 and he\u2019s still a danger to \u2062his country and the world.<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully for his neighbors \u2014 particularly Guyana \u2014 the United States military \u200dhas their\u2063 back.<\/p>\n<p>After\u200d calls by\u2062 Maduro to seize \u200coil-rich territory from its smaller South \u2064American neighbor in recent weeks, a U.S. flyover\u2064 of Guyana\u2019s border region on Thursday showed\u200c Maduro\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-trump-triples-pro-democracy-aid-oppose-venezuelan-strongman-nicolas-maduro\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thugs in Caracas<\/a> \u200b that America still means business.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In collaboration with\u2064 the Guyana Defence Force (GDF),\u2062 the U.S. Southern\u200c Command (USSOUTHCOM) will conduct\u2064 flight operations within\u200b Guyana on December 7.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This exercise \u200bbuilds upon routine \u2064engagement and operations to\u200d enhance security partnership between the\u2062 United States and\u2063 Guyana, and to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/us-military-conducts-exercises-in-guyana-as-border-tension-with-venezuela-escalates\/\" title=\"US military trains in Guyana amid rising border tensions with Venezuela\">strengthen regional cooperation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The embassy added that USSOUTHCOM will continue its\u200d collaboration with the GDF in the areas of disaster preparedness, aerial and maritime\u2063 security, \u2064and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/sound-of-freedom-screenings-at-u-s-southern-command-pulled\/\" title=\"'Sound Of Freedom' screenings canceled at U.S. Southern Command.\">countering transnational criminal organizations<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Not mentioned in the statement, but underlined by recent events, is that a potential border\u200d conflict has \u2064been in the\u200b works between Guyana and Venezuela over the Essequibo region, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/guyana-venezuela-conflict-essequibo-oil-us-military-flight-drills\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CBS News<\/a> notes \u201chas been administered and controlled by Guyana for more than a century,\u2062 although Venezuela \u200calso \u2064claims the disputed area.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Venezuela recently conducted a referendum, which it claims citizens supported,\u200b that aims to give Venezuela authority over the Essequibo region,\u201d CBS News said in a Thursday \u2062report. \u201cGuyanese officials said in response that the \u200bcountry is preparing \u200dto\u200b defend itself\u2062 and its borders in case of an invasion.<\/p>\n<p>The current borders were set by international arbitrators in\u200b an 1899 ruling, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2023\/12\/06\/americas\/venezuelas-president-orders-creation-of-new-state-and-map-including-land-from-guyana\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNN<\/a>. But on Tuesday,\u200b <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/us-makes-rare-move-filing-criminal-charges-world-leader-venezuela-pres-nicolas-maduro\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maduro<\/a> told legislators in his country they should set\u200c aside that ruling and accept a \u201cnew map\u201d that includes the Guyanese territory.<\/p>\n<p>Even with \u2062its recent difficulties \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/homeland-security-confirms-venezuela-sending-violent-criminals-us-according-gop-rep\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Venezuela\u2019s troubles<\/a> are so great\u200c that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unrefugees.org\/emergencies\/venezuela\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">United \u2062Nations<\/a> reports \u2062it\u2019s the site of \u201cthe \u2062second largest international \u2063displacement crisis in the world with 7.3 million Venezuelans displaced globally\u201d \u2014\u2063 it\u200c still remains an exponentially more powerful nation militarily than Guyana does.<\/p>\n<p>As of 2019, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/how-strong-venezuelas-military-1277131\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Newsweek<\/a>, Venezuela\u2019s\u2063 armed forces had 515,000 personnel with about\u2063 130,000 troops on the front lines. Compare this to Guyana\u2019s military strength \u2062of roughly\u2063 3,000 personnel in the same year, according to an analysis by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.macrotrends.net\/countries\/GUY\/guyana\/military-army-size\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Macrotrends<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>However, that massive numerical \u2063advantage \u200dis totally useless if the \u200bUnited States lends some \u2062measure of support to Guyana in the event of an invasion \u2014 which, given <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/war-looming-china-taiwan-30-chinese-flyovers-single-day-1-us-military-move-troubling-signs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the flyover<\/a>, seems like a given.<\/p>\n<p>Somewhat unsurprisingly, Venezuelan officials \u200bcomplained loudly\u2062 about the show of force.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis unfortunate provocation \u2064by the United States \u200bin favor\u2026 of ExxonMobil in Guyana is another step in the \u2062wrong direction,\u201d said \u2062Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino Lopez in a statement\u2062 on social media, \u2063according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.barrons.com\/news\/venezuela-brands-us-guyana-military-drills-provocation-fbd5599b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Barron\u2019s<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe warn that we will not be\u200b diverted from our future \u200dactions for the recovery of the Essequibo,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>However, it seems unlikely \u2062that the Venezuelan government would risk trying to\u200d take a region of Guyana\u2062 that\u2019s home to about 125,000 of the country\u2019s roughly 800,000 citizens if it was assured of armed conflict \u200cwhere the United States commits some aid and training \u2014 if not \u2063directly contributing troops, which could be problematic\u2063 in terms of a longer conflict \u2014\u00a0 to the Guyanese. And that does \u2063appear to be the tack President Joe Biden\u2019s administration is taking with \u200bthe \u200dcrisis, given that Secretary of State Antony Blinken told Guyanese President Irfaan Ali that\u2062 America has \u201cunwavering support\u200d for Guyana\u2019s sovereignty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Of course, there\u2019s \u200cpotentially something to be said for the fact that the Biden administration\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/projecting-weakness-speaker-johnson-slams-biden-xi-summit-energy-experts-blast-climate-deal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">weakness on foreign policy<\/a> \u200d could be seen as a factor\u200b in the saber-rattling\u2062 from \u200cCaracas to begin with, as it has been an\u200c inducement for the likes of Vladimir Putin\u200c and Hamas to take on  <\/p>\n<h2> How \u200bdoes the involvement of the United States in\u200c the border conflict between Guyana and\u200c Venezuela affect the balance of military power?<\/h2>\n<p><span>  Doesn&#8217;t\u200c intervene. With the presence of the \u200cUnited States military in the region, Venezuela&#8217;s plan to seize territory from Guyana becomes much more complicated.<\/p>\n<p>The recent flyover of Guyana&#8217;s\u200c border region by US aircraft sends a clear message to Maduro and his regime in Caracas that the United States stands firmly \u2064with its \u2063allies and will not tolerate any aggression. \u200dThe exercise conducted by the US Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM) in collaboration with the Guyana \u200bDefence Force (GDF) demonstrates the commitment\u2062 to enhancing security partnerships and strengthening regional cooperation.<\/p>\n<p>The\u200d potential border conflict between Guyana and\u2064 Venezuela over \u200bthe Essequibo region\u200c has been a \u200c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/behaving-like-a-woke-parallel-government-republicans-punch-back-at-corporations-bowing-to-far-left-mobs\/\" title=\"\u2018Behaving Like A Woke Parallel Government\u2019: Republicans Punch Back At Corporations Bowing To \u2018Far-Left Mobs\u2019\">long-standing issue<\/a>.
