Why Fauci’s Claim of \u2064Not \u2064Needing Church Anymore Falls Short<\/h2>\n
Before\u200c he passed, my grandfather used to\u2064 say that he didn\u2019t need to go to church, because he could worship\u2063 God \u200cin nature \u2014 in a sunset,\u200d for\u2064 example, which was his favorite example.<\/p>\n
All well and good, except, as\u2062 my father used to point \u200cout, he never actually did.<\/p>\n
Anthony Fauci, former head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infection Diseases, seems\u200b to be deluding himself about his need for\u2064 church in a similar, though obviously not\u200b identical, fashion.<\/p>\n
During an \u200binterview with BBC\u2062 News, Fauci<\/a> \u200bpointed out Dahlgren Chapel of\u2063 the Sacred\u200b Heart, where he and his wife were married in 1985. That\u200b gave rise to the question \u200dof whether he still attends church.<\/p>\n
\u201cNo, I don\u2019t,\u201d he said, which natural led\u200c to the follow-up question from \u200dinterviewer Katy\u200b Kay: \u201cWhy?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cA number of complicated\u2063 reasons,\u201d he said, but Kay wasn\u2019t satisfied\u2062 with that, and encouraged \u200chim to go on.<\/p>\n
\u201cFirst of all, I think my own personal ethics on life are, I think, enough to keep me going on the right path,\u201d he said, \u200cadding that \u2064the \u201corganizational church\u201d had \u201cenough negative aspects,\u201d though he didn\u2019t clarify what \u201cenough\u201d meant in that context.<\/p>\n
Enough for what? To keep him \u200cfrom going? Enough \u200dthat they didn\u2019t need to add one more negative aspect with his attendance?<\/p>\n
I don\u2019t think that\u2019s what he meant; as the old saying goes: The church is full of hypocrites<\/a>, but that\u2063 shouldn\u2019t\u2063 keep you from going. There\u2019s always \u200droom for one more.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m not against it,\u201d he said, almost apologetically. \u201cI identify myself as a Catholic. I was raised, \u2062I was baptized, I was confirmed. I was married in the church. My children were baptized in the church.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut as far as \u200bpracticing it,\u200c it seems almost like a pro\u200d forma thing that I don\u2019t really need to do.\u201d<\/p>\n
