The historical record however suggests that in at least some \u2062cases,\u2063 states have excluded candidates,\u201d Derek \u2062Muller, a law professor at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, said, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/donald-trump-colorado-ballot-insurrectionist-supreme-court-1850765\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Newsweek<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A lower court ruling\u2064 said\u2063 Trump was an insurrectionist, a point he \u2062disputes. The ruling \u2062also said that Section 3 of the \u200d14th Amendment, which bans from several \u2063offices\u2064 office those who have committed\u2064 insurrection \u2064against the federal government,\u2063 does not appear to \u200dapply to\u2064 the presidency.<\/p>\n<p>As such, \u200cDistrict Judge Sarah Wallace \u200csaid Trump should stay on the ballot.
