You \u2063need a new hybrid battery and it\u2019s going to cost\u2064 $18,000 for the battery and another $2,000 to \u200dhave it\u2063 installed.\u2019 And I\u2019m like, \u2018Oh my \u2063God.\u2019 My jaw dropped,\u201d Turner said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u200b almost cried,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<div class=\"firefly-embed\">\n<\/div>\n<p>Turner had bought the \u200bcar three years back and paid $16,000 for \u200cit. That made\u200d a $20,000 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/tesla-owner-locked-car-ev-battery-died-amid-texas-heat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">battery \u2064repair<\/a> way out of line from\u200c his point of view.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can\u2019t make this \u2064make sense in my \u2063mind. How does it cost $20,000 \u200dto put a battery in a\u2063 car,\u2062 but \u200dyou\u200b only paid $16,000?\u201d \u2063he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I bought the car, it came with the battery. It came with\u2063 wheels. It came\u2063 with\u200c brakes. It came \u2063with a body. It\u200d came \u200bwith glass and \u200beverything. It came\u200b with an engine, but they want\u2064 $20,000 just for a \u2062battery. It\u2063 makes \u2062no sense in \u200cmy \u200cmind,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The website <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nerdwallet.com\/article\/loans\/auto-loans\/hybrid-battery-cost\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nerdwallet<\/a> suggested a range of between $1,000 and \u2062$8,000 \u2063for a battery <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ev-owner-needs-replacement-battery-told-wait-four-years-get\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">replacement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Karl Brauer, an analyst for iSeeCars, raised his eyebrows at the tale, KPHO\u2062 reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s no doubt in my mind that [Turner] could find a less expensive battery from another source,\u201d \u00a0he said, adding \u201cIt\u2019s not uncommon for these batteries to last\u2063 15-plus years and 150,000 plus miles.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Buyers should <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/girls-electric-car-needs-new-battery-expensive-vehicle-gets-even-worse-news\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">beware<\/a>, he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat should be \u200bpart of the pre-purchase\u200d inspection, which you should always do when you\u2019re buying a used car, no matter what kind of car it is,\u201d Brauer\u200b said. \u201cIf they can \u2064confirm the battery\u200c is\u200d in\u200b healthy state, that\u2019s \u2064the\u200d first \u200bstep. If it\u2019s \u2063not in a healthy state, \u2064they should use\u200b that as a negotiation point and \u200bthey should research potential replacement \u2064costs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Turner\u200c said his choices are \u2064\u201c$20,000 or a pile of \u200cscrap metal in my driveway.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Turner said that after\u200c KPHO started asking about the issue, Infiniti cut the cost in half.<\/p>\n<p>Turner is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/man-learns-needs-new-ev-battery-hit-30000-price-tag-car\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">not\u200d alone<\/a>.
