Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) took \u2062to X, the\u200c platform\u2063 formerly known\u2064 as Twitter, to express her outrage.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;Shameful,&#8221; wrote Ocasio-Cortez. &#8220;The Biden Admin can no longer reconcile their professed concern\u200c for Palestinians and human rights while also \u2062single-handedly vetoing the UN\u2019s call for ceasefire and sidestepping the entire \u200bUS Congress to unconditionally\u2064 back the indiscriminate bombing of Gaza.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Last week, the U.S. was\u200b the sole vote against a resolution brought by\u200d the United Arab Emirates in the \u200bU.N. Security Council. The resolution \u200baimed to \u200cdemand an immediate ceasefire and hostage\u200c release in the\u200d war in Gaza, as well as ensure humanitarian access to the region.<\/p>\n<p>The\u2064 U.S. was the only\u200d country to vote against the resolution, with the United Kingdom abstaining. The resolution \u2063had the support of 13 Council members.<\/p>\n<p>In an explanation of the vote, U.S. Deputy Ambassador Robert Wood criticized the \u200cdrafting process of the resolution, calling it rushed \u2063and lacking appropriate consultation. According to Wood, the authors ignored nearly\u200b all \u200cof the U.S.&#8217;s \u200crecommendations.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;This ultimately resulted in an imbalanced resolution that was divorced from reality, that would not move the needle forward, on the ground, in any concrete\u2063 way.
