It\u2019s a \u200bcompetitive disadvantage that\u2019s been baked into their \u2062DNA, and their football teams can\u2019t do much about it.<\/p>\n<p>You can find similar\u2064 baked-in disadvantages all across professional sports (e.g. a state\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-lawmakers-set-to-square-off-with-white-house-treasury-department-over-stifling-crypto-tax-plan\/\" title=\"House Lawmakers Set To Square Off With White House, Treasury Department Over \u2018Stifling\u2019 Crypto Tax Plan\">high income tax<\/a> or\u200c cold weather turning off <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/charles-barkley-is-right-super-teams-arent-any-fun\/\" title=\"Charles Barkley Is Right: Super Teams Aren\u2019t Any Fun\">free agents<\/a>), but one odd disadvantage\u200c has always stood out because of how decidedly self-imposed it \u2062is: the New York Yankees\u2019 dress code.<\/p>\n<p>According to OutKick, the rule originated in 1976 when then-Yankees owner George Steinbrenner started requiring his players to be clean-shaven and have their \u200bhair cut (though \u2063a well-kept mustache is approved). The general thinking was\u200c that a strict \u200dappearance policy would help foster a disciplined and ordered environment for the Yankees.<\/p>\n<p>From a winning standpoint, it\u2019s hard to argue with what the Yankees have accomplished since implementing the dress\u200b code. The team has won seven World\u2063 Series titles since 1976, the most in\u2064 baseball. However, the Yankees have also not won a World Series since 2009 \u2014 a drought going on 15 years, which is tied for the second-longest gap between World Series wins in franchise history. (Their longest drought was 18 years \u2063between 1978 and 1996.)<\/p>\n<p>Former Yankees outfielder\u200d Cameron Maybin thinks he knows what might be contributing to that recent futility.
