However, they did consider granting candidates the freedom to participate in\u200c non-RNC-sanctioned debates.<\/p>\n<p>While the revelation of non-RNC affiliated debates before the\u2063 committee&#8217;s decision \u2064further\u200d undermines its authority, \u200cthe struggle\u200d to keep candidates in line \u200bbegan \u200cmuch earlier when former President \u200bDonald \u200cTrump refused\u2062 to participate in \u200bRNC debates and \u200dmaintained his majority support among Republicans.<\/p>\n<p>Trump kept\u200c his potential\u200d participation in the RNC debates secret until days before the first event in August. Instead, he strategically planned appearances and events during the debates as counterprogramming.<\/p>\n<p>During the third debate in October, 2024 candidate and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy displayed significant insubordination by calling out Republican Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel and demanding her resignation. His campaign even launched a website called FireRonna.com. \u200dNevertheless, he still participated in the fourth RNC debate on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement to the Washington\u2062 Examiner, Ramaswamy criticized \u2063the RNC&#8217;s actions and called for change.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;This is the same RNC that refused to let\u2063 Chris Christie and I debate. \u2062This is the same RNC that hired\u2064 NBC to moderate the GOP primary debate. \u2064This is the same RNC that has been on a\u2062 losing spree from 2018, 2020,\u200b 2022, and 2023.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Ronna McRomney sitting atop the RNC reminds\u2063 me of a squatter in\u200b a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/shapiro-debunking-rent-control\/\" title=\"SHAPIRO: Debunking Rent Control\">rent-controlled apartment<\/a>. They \u2064went\u200b from control\u2063 freaks \u2062over the debates, banning candidates from one-on-one forums, to completely\u2064 giving up\u2063 and handing over the process to \u2064far-left \u200dCNN.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>CNN was the first network to announce its two planned\u2063 debates\u200c in January, just days before the nominating contests in Iowa\u2063 and New Hampshire. The\u200d Iowa\u2063 debate will be \u2062held at Drake University in Des Moines, while\u200d the New\u200d Hampshire debate\u200d will take \u2062place at\u200b St. Anselm College\u2064 in Goffstown.<\/p>\n<p>However, St. Anselm College seemed unaware of CNN&#8217;s plan, as Neal Levesque, the college&#8217;s executive director of the New Hampshire Institute of Politics and Political Library, expressed \u2063surprise and\u2062 stated that\u2064 the debate announcement breached RNC debate rules.<\/p>\n<p>Following CNN&#8217;s\u2063 announcement, ABC News also revealed its intention to \u2062host a debate in New Hampshire on January 18, alongside WMUR-TV.
