That universal\u2063 expression of \u200cindignation confirms \u2064our deep attachment to a higher moral law.<\/p>\n<p>Only on rare occasions, \u2063however, do we see such retributive justice in action.<\/p>\n<p>One such occasion\u200d occurred \u2063last week in \u200bParma, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ohio-woman-indicted-serial-killings-men-lured-sex-recalls-case-monster-aileen-wuornos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ohio<\/a>, a suburb of Cleveland.<\/p>\n<h3>Justice Served: Woman \u200dSentenced to Work 2 Months in\u2064 Fast-Food \u2064Job After\u2064 Assault\u200b on Chipotle Worker<\/h3>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/fox8.com\/news\/i-team\/woman-who-threw-chipotle-order-at-worker-can-work-off-jail-time-at-fast-food-restaurant\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WJW-TV<\/a> in Cleveland, Parma Municipal Court Judge Timothy \u200bGilligan gave 39-year-old Rosemary Hayne a choice between spending \u2064180 days in jail and putting herself \u200din the shoes \u2014 almost literally \u200c\u2014 of the woman she assaulted.<\/p>\n<p>At a Parma\u200b Chipotle \u2063on Sept. 5, Hayne confronted restaurant employee Emily Russell. The disgruntled customer complained about her order \u200cand then threw hot food in Russell\u2019s face.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cYou didn\u2019t get your burrito bowl the\u2063 way you like it and this is how you \u2064respond?\u201d Judge Gilligan said while addressing Hayne during sentencing. \u201cThis is not Real Housewives of Parma. This behavior\u200b is not acceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIf I showed you how my\u2063 food looked and \u200bhow my food looked a week later from that same\u200d restaurant, it\u2019s disgusting looking,\u201d Hayne complained.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI \u2064bet \u2062you\u200b won\u2019t\u200c be happy with the food \u200dyou are going to get in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/appeals-court-hands-win-man-sent-jail-hillary-clinton-meme\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">jail<\/a>,\u201d \u200cGilligan told the defendant.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Still, the\u200b judge \u2064showed a degree of mercy\u200b while crafting a punishment that fit the crime.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cDo you want to walk in \u200d [Russell\u2019s] shoes for two months and learn how people should treat people, or do you want to do your jail time?\u201d Gilligan asked Hayne according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/chipotle-bowl-assault-sentence-rosemary-hayne-emily-russell-fast-food\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CBS<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d like to \u200cwalk in her shoes,\u201d Hayne replied. \u2064Thus, under court orders, she will now spend two months wearing the shoes fast-food workers wear.<\/p>\n<p>In an email \u200cto CBS, attorney Joe O\u2019Malley expressed thanks and regret on Hayne\u2019s \u200cbehalf.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy client is\u200d grateful for the opportunity to get a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/wapo-employees-plan-turn-company-walk-off-job\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">job<\/a> to \u200breduce her sentence and demonstrate her true remorse\u2064 for her behavior at Chipotle,\u201d O\u2019Malley wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Russell doubts her attacker\u2019s \u2062penitence. \u2063At\u200b the sentencing,\u200d for instance, the victim said that\u2063 Hayne did not make eye\u200b contact with her.<\/p>\n<p>Russell, 17, also has found a different job because, she\u200c said, \u2064Chipotle\u200c did not support her.<\/p>\n<p>A video of the\u2062 assault, \u200cfollowed by a brief interview with Russell, appeared in a report by Cleveland\u2019s \u200b <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=iVcgieFrctw&#038;t=54s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WKYC -TV<\/a>. Readers \u2062may view that video\u2062 here:<\/p>\n<div class=\"firefly-embed\">\n<\/div>\n<p>Chipotle Chief Corporate Affairs Officer Laurie Schalow issued a statement \u2062endorsing the judge\u2019s sentencing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe health and safety \u2063of \u200bour employees is our greatest \u200cpriority, and we\u2019re pleased to see justice \u200dserved for any \u2063individual that does not treat our team members with the respect they deserve,\u201d Schalow said according to <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/woman-who-threw-burrito-bowl-at-chipotle-worker-sentenced-to-work-2-months-in-fast-food-job-8411858\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">People<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The entire \u2064incident has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/abortion-opponents-see-sharp-rise-in-face-act-charges-under-biden-administration\/\" title=\"FACE Act charges surge under Biden administration, alarming abortion opponents\">drawn\u200c national attention<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, NewsNation\u2019s \u201cDan Abrams Live\u201d last week featured a three-minute segment \u200con the confrontation. That segment included\u2063 video from inside the courtroom,\u2064 as well as comments\u200c from Gilligan:<\/p>\n<div class=\"firefly-embed\">\n<\/div>\n<p>Hayne\u2019s food-related complaint during\u2063 sentencing, coupled with her alleged avoidance of eye contact with Russell, does raise questions about remorse. But we cannot read others\u2019 hearts. Deep <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/embarrassing-issue-climate-pledge-arena-leaves-nhl-teams-playing-half-dark-stadium\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">embarrassment<\/a> alone could also account for such behavior.<\/p>\n<p>While we \u2062would like to see genuine remorse, \u200cthe knowledge that Hayne might soon encounter customers like herself satisfies us on a most \u2064visceral \u2064level.<\/p>\n<p>At the same \u2062time, however, we should not feel too much satisfaction. However, on rare occasions, we witness an example of retributive justice being carried out.<\/p>\n<p>The\u2064 case in question occurred at a \u2062Chipotle \u200crestaurant in Parma, where\u2063 39-year-old Rosemary Hayne assaulted an employee named Emily Russell.
