Winger\u2064 brings up \u200ba few key points. \u2064Among them, he \u200dcompares\u200b the difference between playing pretend and \u2062outright lying to your kid about the existence of jolly old St. Nick. The former relies\u2062 on everyone being\u2063 in the know.<\/p>\n

The latter keeps your kids\u2063 in the dark, with \u200cyou enjoying\u2064 a chuckle at their expense and their innocence. Winger argues that how Santa<\/a> is \u200cintegrated \u2063into many homes\u2062 weaves into\u200b the situation a level of deception that is unhealthy and \u200cnot appropriate.<\/p>\n

If\u200c there ever was a sign that we need \u2064Jesus more, this is a good one. \u2064Retail ruined Santa, in my opinion.<\/p>\n
The imbalance comes from that and\u200c the\u200b fact that the Christian underpinnings of \u2064Christmas\u2064 have expanded well\u200d beyond\u2063 its origins in\u200c the United States. We \u2064are a melting pot<\/a>, after\u200b all.<\/p>\n
Because of this, plenty\u2062 who aren\u2019t Christian are celebrating the holiday. It\u200d impacts the interpretation, \u200cunderstanding\u2063 and relevance. Instead of \u200bChrist, they attach themselves to Santa and open their wallets. As Winger said, \u201cMoney is\u200b driving it.\u201d<\/p>\n
It certainly is, but \u2062the \u2064changing face of our nation has\u2062 an\u2064 effect as well.<\/p>\n
Regardless, the intention of Winger\u2019s words as I interpret them is\u200c basically this: Christmas needs to \u2063remain about Christ and all \u200bof those important things, and it hasn\u2019t. It has become more folly than foundational or faith-based<\/a>.<\/p>\n
As \u2063a Christian, I concur. But I \u200ddon\u2019t think\u2064 pinning the blame on Santa is\u200b the answer.<\/p>\n
The problem runs much deeper.\u2063 It arises from \u200b good versus \u200bevil<\/a>,\u2064 with evil set on extraditing God from our society for good.<\/p>\n
Everything else is ornamental and deceptive.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
