Despite the paper&#8217;s argument that the economy is strong under President Joe\u2064 Biden, Americans remain pessimistic.<\/p>\n<p>The \u2062Washington Post Guild stated in their <a href=\"https:\/\/actionnetwork.org\/letters\/workers-at-the-washington-post-deserve-a-living-wage\">announcement<\/a> of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/there-has-never-been-a-better-reason-to-read-the-new-york-times-here-are-101-links-you-should-click-on-right-now\/\" title=\"There Has Never Been a Better Reason To Read the New York Times. Here Are 101 Links You Should Click on Right Now\">24-hour work stoppage<\/a>, &#8220;Washington Post employees\u200d have been negotiating with management for \u206218\u2063 months. We still lack a contract that keeps pace with record-level inflation and guarantees \u2064workers a living wage.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This strike comes shortly after the publication of an editorial \u2064by\u200b the paper&#8217;s\u200c board, which hailed 2023 as a &#8220;miracle year for \u2064the U.S. economy.&#8221; The editorial argued that there is a\u2062 disconnect between Americans&#8217;\u200c negative views on\u2063 the\u200c economy and \u200dits actual condition, highlighting factors such as \u200ddecreased inflation, job\u200b growth, GDP expansion,\u2063 and increased consumption.<\/p>\n<p>The board wrote, &#8220;In many ways, \u200cthis \u2062is the year the\u2064 economy finally returned to something close to \u2062normal. But \u200bmany\u2063 people \u2063seem to have\u2063 forgotten\u2063 what normal looks \u2063like after\u200b a traumatic few years.&#8221; They added, \u2063&#8221;The United States has a chance to stick its \u200bsoft\u200d landing. It\u2062 would \u2064be even \u200dbetter\u2014for the country\u2019s economy and its politics\u2014if Americans believed it could happen.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2023\/11\/22\/thanksgiving-democracy-gratitude\/\">pre-Thanksgiving editorial<\/a>, the board \u200cargued that\u200b voters are not giving President Biden enough\u2062 credit for the stability he has brought to \u200dthe economy. They stated, &#8220;The typical U.S. \u2062family&#8217;s cup \u2062runneth over,&#8221;\u2063 pointing to low unemployment\u2063 and falling\u200d inflation.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Washington Post<\/em> has published several columns since April emphasizing the strength of the economy. Some of the titles \u2063include\u2064 &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2023\/04\/16\/economic-recovery-strong-gloomy-perceptions\/\">Stop the gloom and doom. Another Trump term would\u2064 be way worse.<\/a>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p>In November, the <em>Post<\/em> published a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/business\/2023\/11\/13\/biden-economy-inflation-gdp-unions\/\">report<\/a> that\u200b attributed an economic \u200cmystery to inflation, stating that\u2062 most Americans feel \u2062worse about their economic \u200bprospects despite \u200cbeing financially better \u2062off than before \u2064the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>While inflation has cooled \u200bdown from its peak, Americans are still\u2062 struggling with the high prices \u200cit has \u2063caused.\u2062 According\u200b to a recent <em>Bloomberg<\/em> analysis, costs \u200dhave <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/latest-news\/im-not-getting-ahead-ever-report-shows-americans-are-getting-crushed-by-bidenflation\/\">significantly increased<\/a> \u200b since January 2020, with groceries\u2063 and electricity prices rising \u2062by 25% and rents increasing by \u206420%.<\/p>\n<p>Americans&#8217; negative perception \u200dof the economy is \u2063reflected in President Biden&#8217;s approval \u200bratings. A recent CNN <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/latest-news\/im-not-getting-ahead-ever-report-shows-americans-are-getting-crushed-by-bidenflation\/\">poll<\/a> revealed his approval rating at 37%, his lowest to date, while his disapproval rating stood\u2063 at 63%.
