Kathy Manning (D-NC)\u200c made a\u200c bold announcement on\u200c Thursday, revealing\u200c that she \u200cwill \u2063not be seeking \u200dreelection in the \u2064House. The\u2062 reason\u2064 behind her decision? It\u2019s the\u200b shameful act of leaders \u2063who know they can&#8217;t win under fair\u200d districts.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>Fighting for Fairness<\/h3>\n<p>Manning\u2064 highlighted a\u200d lawsuit filed in federal court this week, which challenges the new map for disenfranchising minority voters. She hopes \u200bthat this \u200dlegal action will\u200b reinstate \u200b&#8221;fair districts&#8221; and give her the opportunity to reverse her decision and run for her seat again.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I would love \u200cnothing more\u200c than\u200c to \u2064continue representing our \u200dcommunity in \u2064Congress. Unfortunately, the egregiously gerrymandered\u2063 maps \u2063do not make this race\u200b competitive, and I cannot\u2062 in \u2064good conscience\u200b ask people to invest their time, resources, and efforts in a campaign that is rigged against us,&#8221; Manning explained. &#8220;However, if the impending lawsuits are \u200csuccessful and \u2062the General Assembly is\u2064 forced \u200cto\u2062 draw fair congressional\u200b districts,\u2062 I will seek to continue my service to our community.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>If the lawsuit fails, the Republican-drawn\u2062 maps will \u200cremain \u200bin place for the\u200c 2024 elections through 2030. North\u200d Carolina gained an\u200d additional congressional district after the 2020 census, primarily due to minority population growth.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the 24 Democrats who are\u2064 retiring, seeking another \u2063office, or have resigned, there are also 13 Republicans, including former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), who are making similar moves. Rep.
