On \u2063Wednesday, Biden hosted the third annual White House Tribal Nations Summit at the Interior Department \u2064in Washington, where he \u200cemphasized \u200dhis commitment\u200c to\u2062 assisting native communities.<\/p>\n<p>Biden \u200cproudly stated, &#8220;Under my leadership, the \u200dfederal government has made unprecedented investments in\u2064 tribal nations. These transformative investments \u200dwill benefit all Americans, as\u200b we recognize \u200bthe crucial role federal\u200d funding \u200cplays in the prosperity of\u2063 your communities.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The\u200b President also \u200dhighlighted the fact that his predecessor, Donald Trump, neglected to host these\u200d summits during his time in office. Biden expressed his pride \u2063in relaunching\u200c the\u2064 annual summit and addressing the\u200c years of disregard from previous administrations.<\/p>\n<p>However, the \u200dsituation is not without complications. Some of the 574\u2062 federally recognized tribes in the country \u2063have expressed\u200d grievances with\u200b the Biden administration, leading to lawsuits being filed. For instance, several tribes in\u2064 Montana and\u200c South Dakota have sued the administration \u2064over inadequate police funding, which is guaranteed to tribes\u200b through 19th-century treaties. In\u200b one case, \u2062a reservation the size of Connecticut has only 33 officers and eight criminal investigators responsible \u2064for over 100,000 emergency calls annually.<\/p>\n<p>The government has responded by \u200dfiling \u2062a motion \u200cto dismiss one of the lawsuits, arguing that the treaties do \u2062not specify \u200cthe exact number of \u2063officers the U.S. must provide to each tribe.<\/p>\n<p>Disputes have also\u2064 arisen in other areas.
