Josh Hawley told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/congress\/republicans-storm-briefing-congress-battles-israel-ukraine-aid-package-rcna128245\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NBC News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, usually senators don\u2019t scream at each other \u200cin front of, \u2062you know, the secretary of defense \u200cand so forth,\u201d Hawley added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat most,\u2063 or many, Republican senators want to talk about here is the border, and [Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer] would prefer not to do that in this venue; obviously, there\u2019s nobody there to talk about the border,\u201d he said. \u201cSo that \u2062was a\u200d point \u2062of some\u2063 heated disagreement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That \u201cheated disagreement,\u201d Schumer \u2062claimed, began when Senate \u2064Minority Leader <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/mitch-mcconnell-calls-rule-change-house-claims-impossible-govern\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mitch McConnell<\/a>l started asked questions \u2062about \u200bborder security that \u2062no\u2062 one in \u200cthe briefing was prepared to\u2062 address.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe briefing,\u200b led by\u200c the secretaries of defense\u2062 and state,\u2064 as \u200dwell as the director of national intelligence and the\u2064 chairman \u2064of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, was\u200b held \u200dbehind closed doors to allow all 100 senators to ask questions\u2063 about the administration\u2019s funding request,\u201d NBC reported.<\/p>\n<p>Yet none of those present \u200cwere able to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/mom-notices-strange-gas-smell-coming-from-sons-room-police-hunting-him-down-after-a-heinous-discovery\/\" title=\"Mom smells gas in son's room - police searching for him after shocking find.\">answer \u2064questions<\/a> about U.S. \u2063 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/bidens-borders-foreign-born-us-population-hits-highest-level-ever-recorded-american-history\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">border security<\/a>, despite the fact a supplemental bill submitted \u200cto Congress\u2062 by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/illegal-alien-praises-joe-biden-crossing-border-love-thank-everything\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">President Joe Biden<\/a> included <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/no-money-ice-set-run-money-october-bidens-failed-border\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">border\u200d funding<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting\u200b \u201cwas immediately\u200b hijacked by\u2064 Leader McConnell,\u201d\u2062 Schumer claimed. \u201cThe first question instead of asking our panelists \u2014 he called on [Oklahoma Republican Sen. James] Lankford to\u2063 give \u2063a five-minute talk about the \u200dnegotiations on the border. And that wasn\u2019t the purpose of the meeting, at all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of them\u200c started \u2014 it was disrespectful \u2014 started screaming at one of the generals and challenging\u200d him to why he \u2064didn\u2019t go to the border,\u201d \u2062Schumer added,\u200b apparently referring\u200c to one of the Republican senators \u200dpresent.<\/p>\n<p>Arkansas Republican \u2062Sen. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/tom-cotton-sets-stage-nail-hunter-wh-cocaine-charge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tom Cotton<\/a>, however, said that\u200d despite Schumer\u2019s claims \u2062to\u2063 the contrary, it was not Republicans who \u201cinjected\u201d the border discussions into the talks around \u2063additional funds for\u2063 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/zelenskyy-troubled-israel-hamas-war-taking-away-focus-invites-trump-ukraine-says-cant-bring-peace\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ukraine<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/israel-prepares-send-salty-surprise-hamas-terror-tunnels-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Israel<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSchumer [was] running his big mouth, claiming that it was Republicans \u2062who, quote, unquote, \u2064injected immigration for \u200dborder \u200dsecurity in this debate \u2014 and I had none of \u2063that,\u201d Cotton said. \u201cI said: \u2018Nope,\u200b Republicans \u2062haven\u2019t injected border security into this debate. Joe Biden sent us a supplemental \u2063bill with\u2062 border provisions in it.\u2019\u200c He had the misfortune of spreading those\u2063 lies right after someone\u2062 had handed me a microphone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other Republicans agreed that there was little point to even \u200dholding the briefing if\u2062 there\u200d was\u2063 no \u200done there prepared\u2062 to discuss enhanced \u2062border security.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople got up and walked out, because this is\u200c a waste of time,\u201d\u200b North Dakota\u2019s Kevin Cramer\u2063 told NBC.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo say it was a \u200dwaste of time would be an understatement,\u201d Missouri\u2019s Eric Schmitt added. \u201cIt was insulting to have a meeting in there \u2014 we\u2019ve \u200dhad, like, I \u2064don\u2019t know, a dozen meetings on Ukraine\u200b \u2014 \u200dto not have anybody in there\u200c from [the Department of Homeland Security] is the height of \u2014 if there was a Mount Rushmore \u2063of tone deafness, \u200bChuck Schumer would have his face on the mountain.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Even \u2063Mitt Romney and Lindsey Graham agreed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to help Ukraine and Israel, but we\u2019ve got to have the Democrats recognize that the trade here, the deal, is \u200bwe stop the open border,\u201d the Utah Republican said. \u201cThey\u200d don\u2019t\u2064 want to\u2064 do that. So Republicans are just walking out \u2062of the briefing because the people there are not willing to actually discuss what it takes to get\u2064 a deal done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt started\u200d off\u2064 pretty \u2064bad \u2026\u2062 a lot of tension in the\u2064 room because nobody talked about the border,\u201d South Carolina\u2019s Graham\u200d added. \u201cIn case you don\u2019t have\u200b a television or \u200cyou\u2019ve \u2064been living in a cave, you\u200d would\u2062 know that most Republicans \u200cfeel like we need to address the broken border.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The previous day, Office of \u200cManagement and Budget Director \u2062Shalanda Young <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/white-house-complains-speaker-johnson-money-ukraine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">had written<\/a> to leaders of both parties in both houses of Congress\u2062 that failure to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/can-ukrainian-pilots-fly-polands-upgraded-mig-29-fighter-planes\/\" title=\"Can Ukrainian Pilots Fly Poland\u2019s Upgraded MiG-29 Fighter Planes?\">provide additional arms<\/a> and equipment to Ukraine\u2063 will \u201ckneecap\u201d the country in its war with Russia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe \u200dclash\u200b highlighted just how far apart the two parties remain \u200cover\u200d the issue ahead of a Senate vote expected Wednesday on\u200d President Joe Biden\u2019s \u2062funding package,\u201d\u2062 NBC noted. \u201cSenate Republicans have\u200d vowed to filibuster it \u200dbecause of a \u2063lack of sufficient immigration restrictions.
