In a previous letter to the committee, Hunter Biden&#8217;s attorney, Abbe\u2064 Lowell, declined the request, emphasizing that their client would only agree\u200d to testify in a public hearing before the committee, not in a closed-door deposition.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;He is making this \u200cchoice because the Committee has demonstrated time and again\u2064 it uses <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/liberals-are-already-panicking-about-trumps-2024-plan\/\" title=\"Liberals Are Already Panicking About Trump's 2024 Plan\">closed-door sessions<\/a> \u200bto \u2063manipulate, even distort, the facts and misinform the American public \u2014 a hearing would ensure transparency and truth in these proceedings,&#8221; Lowell wrote.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In a public hearing,\u200b members from both parties of\u200b the committee are given five\u2063 minutes each to question a witness in an open setting. On the other hand, a deposition involves representatives from each party\u200c taking turns to question a witness behind closed doors. While \u200ddepositions are not accessible to \u200cthe media and \u200cthe public, they are transcribed, and\u2064 sometimes\u2064 the transcripts are later made public.<\/p>\n<p>In the letter,\u200c Lowell points to Comer&#8217;s \u2063previous public statements as the basis\u200c for their decision. Lowell references Comer&#8217;s remarks\u2064 on a \u2064conservative \u2063podcast on Oct. 31, where he \u200bstated, &#8220;We&#8217;re in the\u200b downhill phase \u200bof this investigation now because \u200dwe have \u200cso many documents, and we can bring these people in for depositions or committee hearings, whichever they choose.&#8221; Lowell also highlights Comer&#8217;s statement on Newsmax on Sept. 13, where\u200b he said, \u2063&#8221;Hunter Biden is more than welcome\u2062 to\u2064 come in front of the \u2062committee&#8230; he&#8217;s invited today.\u200b We will drop\u2062 everything.&#8221; On Nov. 8, Comer sent Lowell a letter stating, \u2064&#8221;Given\u2064 your client&#8217;s willingness to address this investigation publicly up to this point, we would expect him to be willing to testify before Congress.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Following Lowell&#8217;s initial letter\u200b rejecting the\u2063 closed-door deposition, Comer responded with \u2064another\u200d letter, expressing his willingness to hold a public hearing but only after Hunter Biden had completed the deposition.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He doesn&#8217;t get to make the rules,&#8221; Comer remarked about Hunter Biden while speaking to reporters. &#8220;You&#8217;re talking about a white guy \u2062from an influential \u200cfamily that has \u200btold the IRS, the FBI, and \u200bthe DOJ to go fly a kite. He&#8217;s not going to tell the House Oversight Committee that.
