Elise Stefanik (R., N.Y.)\u2063 boldly\u2064 accused her alma mater, \u200cHarvard University, of enabling &#8220;far-left&#8221; anti-Semitism.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Today, Harvard University\u200b has been so\u200c corrupted\u200c by its apparent \u2064desperation \u200bto appease the far-left that \u2064its moral compass has been long forgotten,&#8221; she wrote in \u2062an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecrimson.com\/article\/2023\/12\/5\/stefanik-harvard-antisemitism\/\">op-ed<\/a> in the <em>Harvard \u200dCrimson<\/em>, the school&#8217;s student newspaper<em>.<\/em> &#8220;It is profoundly disappointing to see Harvard University, a prestigious institution which\u200b we care \u200cso deeply about, devolve from fostering an age of American independence into an \u200dinstitution that enables\u2062 abhorrent\u200d antisemitism.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Stefanik, a Harvard graduate from 2006, brought \u2062attention to Harvard president Claudine Gay&#8217;s response to student organizations signing a statement after Hamas&#8217;s Oct. 7 terror attacks, which \u200cclaimed Israel was &#8220;entirely responsible for all unfolding violence.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;While this statement \u200cis sickening and multiple groups have since\u200d retracted their signatures,&#8221; Stefanik wrote, &#8220;what is worse is\u200b the failure of Harvard\u2019s leadership to immediately condemn the statement. Harvard\u2019s silence created a vacuum in which heinous antisemitism echoes\u2064 loudly.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The House Republican Conference chair expressed\u2063 concern about the \u200cpresence of slogans like \u2063&#8221;globalize the intifada&#8221;\u200d and &#8220;from the river to the sea&#8221; on campus. She criticized Gay for\u2063 emphasizing \u200bthe\u2062 school&#8217;s commitment to \u2063free speech in relation to Israel&#8217;s \u2063war\u2063 on Hamas, especially after Harvard \u2062ranked last in the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression&#8217;s College Free Speech\u2064 Rankings just before the war began.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;President Claudine Gay has certainly revealed the \u200clack of character of Harvard as an institution\u2014coupled with Harvard\u2019s abysmal record of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/western-nations-scramble-to-protect-universities-from-american-leftism\/\" title=\"Western Nations Scramble To Protect Universities From American Leftism\">protecting free speech<\/a>, the willingness\u2064 of \u200bHarvard University to now vehemently defend free speech when that speech calls\u2064 for the death of Jews and the eradication of Israel is absolutely \u200brevelatory in Harvard\u2019s unacceptable lack\u2062 of moral clarity.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Stefanik also\u200b declared her commitment to using her power in Congress to combat the &#8220;plague of antisemitism&#8221;\u2063 that is spreading on college campuses.<\/p>\n<p>Gay has faced criticism from \u2063other prominent Harvard alumni, including\u200b Sen. Mitt Romney (R., Utah), who signed a <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/campus\/this-is-not-leadership-open-letter-skewers-harvard-for-failing-to-protect-jewish-students\/\">letter<\/a> condemning Gay&#8217;s\u200b conduct and \u2062that of \u200dother \u2063administrators as &#8220;not leadership,&#8221; citing &#8220;expressions of hate \u2062and \u2063vitriol \u200dagainst Jews&#8221; on campus.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/section>\n<p> <\/p>\n<h2> What is the overall impact of Stefanik&#8217;s \u2064op-ed on the conversation and actions surrounding the issue of anti-Semitism at Harvard and other universities<\/h2>\n<p><span>  , highlighted recent incidents of anti-Semitism on campus, including the defacing of a menorah during Hanukkah and the distribution of anti-Semitic \u200cflyers. \u200dShe criticized Harvard for not <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/desantis-promises-deadly-force-against-cartels-and-attacks-biden-administration-in-new-hampshire\/\" title=\"DeSantis vows 'lethal force' against cartels, criticizes Biden in NH.\">taking \u200dsufficient action<\/a> to address these incidents and for\u200d allowing a hostile environment for Jewish students.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When Jewish students have to constantly worry about their safety and well-being on campus, it is clear that something is\u2062 deeply wrong,&#8221; Stefanik wrote. &#8220;Harvard&#8217;s failure \u2062to effectively respond to these incidents sends a message that anti-Semitism is tolerable and acceptable.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Stefanik called for Harvard to take immediate action to combat anti-Semitism, including implementing stronger disciplinary\u2062 measures for those involved in such incidents, providing better support for Jewish students, and\u2062 promoting education and awareness about the history and impact of anti-Semitism.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Harvard must prioritize the\u2062 safety \u2064and well-being of all its students, including Jewish students,&#8221; she emphasized. &#8220;No student should feel unsafe\u200b or targeted \u2064on campus because of their \u2063religion.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Stefanik&#8217;s op-ed\u2062 sparked \u2062a conversation on \u2064campus about the issue of anti-Semitism and the university&#8217;s\u2062 response to it.
