Debris collected\u200b by the fishers had been \u2063picked up by the U.S. military\u200c earlier\u200b Sunday, and that collected by \u2063the coast guard was \u200balso to \u200cbe\u2062 handed over later in the\u200b day.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The handover is procedure \u2063according \u2063to\u2062 the Japan-U.S. Status Forces Agreement, under which Japanese authorities are not given the right to seize or investigate U.S. \u2064military property \u2062unless \u200dthe U.S. \u2062decides otherwise. That \u200cmeans it\u2064 will be practically impossible for Japan to investigate \u2063the cause of\u2063 the accident.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The \u2062agreement, known as SOFA, has in the\u200d past repeatedly made Japanese investigation difficult in \u200bcriminal cases involving American service members \u200don Okinawa\u2064 and elsewhere, and has been\u2063 criticized as unequal by\u2064 rights activists and \u200bothers, including Okinawa\u2063 Gov. Denny Tamaki, who call for \u200ba revision.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The Air Force Special Operations\u200b Command formally identified the one confirmed victim \u2063as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/doesnt-anybody-want-join-bidens-military-desperate-air-force-raises-age-limit-42-recruits\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Air Force<\/a> \u200cStaff Sgt. \u200dJacob Galliher of Pittsfield, Massachusetts, on Saturday, \u2062after \u2064tributes had begun \u2064pouring\u200d in \u200dthe\u2062 day\u2064 before.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Galliher\u2019s \u2064family issued a statement Saturday \u2063saying it \u200dwas\u200b in mourning and asking \u2063for \u2064privacy and prayers for his wife, \u200ctwo children, and other family \u2062members.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cJacob was an\u200d incredible son, brother, husband, \u2063father, and friend to so many. His short life touched \u200cand made\u200b better the lives \u2063of hundreds,\u2062 if not thousands in Pittsfield,\u2063 in this region \u200dand everywhere he served,\u201d \u2062the \u2062family said. \u201cJacob lived to serve his family, his country, and the people he loved.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The U.S.\u2063 military\u2063 said it \u200cwas continuing to look for the rest of the crew.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cWe want to assure our air commandos\u2019 families that our efforts will continue \u2063and include every possible\u2063 capability at our disposal,\u201d said Rear Adm. Jeromy\u2062 Williams, Pacific commander for the Special Operations Command.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>U.S. Ambassador to Japan\u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-biden-expected-nominate-rahm-emanuel-high-profile-overseas-post\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rahm \u200dEmanuel<\/a>, in a statement Sunday, said \u201cyour heart \u200cand your spirit are\u200c torn when you see a young man with\u2062 such promise lose his \u2063life in the service of a set of ideals.\u201d He said the\u200c top\u200d priority\u2064 is the safety of \u200cthe \u200bservice members, as\u2063 well as the \u2062communities where they\u200d operate, and pledged to make sure \u201cthe equipment, the\u200b aircraft, anything that you\u2019re\u200b using\u201d is safe.<\/p>\n<p>Emanuel thanked the Japanese\u2062 Self Defense Forces, the coast guard, and the local \u200bfishing communities for\u200c their support in the search \u200bfor the seven still missing \u2062and promised full transparency.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cObviously, in a \u200cfully transparent \u2063way\u2062 as we investigate what happened, to rectify it, we will be transparent with our partner, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/us-pacific-allies-preparing-war\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Japan<\/a>.
