Under President Joe Biden’s leadership, this decline has reached its lowest point<\/a>. It’s no surprise, considering that his administration is widely recognized<\/a> as the most progressive in White House history.<\/p>\n

But what if the old ways were actually just and true? What if they were\u200c directly handed down by God\u200b Himself?<\/p>\n

That’s the\u2064 situation we find ourselves in today.<\/p>\n

In the name of progress, the Biden administration is actively undermining the\u200b word of God, including the \u200bvery principles He revealed at Mount Sinai<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As a result, \u2064everyday Americans are paying the price.<\/p>\n

In light of this, The \u200cWestern Journal will\u2063 be releasing a series that delves into how<\/em> the Biden administration<\/a> is undermining \u200band subverting \u200cour country’s commitment to each of the Ten Commandments.<\/p>\n

But before we embark on that journey, let’s address some questions that readers may have.<\/p>\n

Did our country \u200dever truly uphold the Ten Commandments? Why do they matter? Didn’t\u200c Christ’s\u200c death and resurrection render the \u200bold laws obsolete? Why single out the \u2063Biden administration when others have also faltered?<\/p>\n

Our Nation’s Christian Foundation<\/strong><\/h3>\n
Inside the U.S. Supreme Court building, there is a\u200d memorial to the Ten Commandments carved in stone behind the chief justice’s chair.\u200b On top of the building’s east \u200bside, there is a sculpture of Moses holding the tablets\u200b on which the laws were written.<\/p>\n
These displays are not mere decorations. They symbolize the profound influence that the Ten Commandments, found \u200cin the Torah, have had on the Western world’s justice systems<\/a>, \u2064particularly in America.<\/p>\n
Christian values\u2063 and\u2062 principles \u200bderived from the Bible played a significant\u2064 role in \u2062the formation of our government.<\/p>\n
This is crucial to understand because if America\u200c was simply a secular nation created by deists, as some believe, then the abandonment of Christian values could be seen as a natural progression rather than a decline.<\/p>\n
However, America was undeniably a Christian nation<\/a> from its inception. The ancient laws\u2064 described in the Torah \u200dhave always been at the core of our legal system<\/a>.<\/p>\n
Contrary to popular belief, most of the founders were Christians<\/a>, not deists. The majority of the attendants at the \u200dConstitutional Convention were professing Christians.<\/p>\n
Prior to \u2063the founding of America, eight of the 13 British colonies established official Christian\u200b denominations<\/a>.<\/p>\n
Whether believers or not, \u200cthe founders regarded the Bible<\/a> as the ultimate\u200b moral authority and frequently quoted from it.<\/p>\n
Deuteronomy, in \u2063particular, was heavily \u200dreferenced<\/a> in political writings\u200c of the founding era. According to Professor \u200cDonald S. Lutz, it\u200b was cited more frequently than all of John Locke’s writings combined.<\/p>\n
When \u2063the founders’ descendants arrived in the New World, they brought with them the Christian culture that had shaped European societies.<\/p>\n
This influence can be\u200c seen \u2062in how our government applies its laws and how its people \u2062discern right from wrong.<\/p>\n
Therefore, the\u200b progressive leadership’s departure from the Ten Commandments is undoubtedly a regression<\/em>.<\/p>\n
It lies at the heart of \u200cour \u2062nation’s decline.<\/p>\n
The Effort to Diminish\u2063 God’s \u200dLaw<\/h3>\n
The presence of Ten Commandments memorials in the Supreme Court building and courthouses across the country is not unique. However, atheists and anti-Christian protesters\u200b have consistently sought to remove these displays.<\/p>\n
They argue that the Ten Commandments are not unique \u2064and that other legal\u2062 systems<\/a> have developed similar foundations for law and government.<\/p>\n
While\u2062 it’s true that other cultures have prohibited murder, theft, adultery, and lying, it is only under legal systems influenced \u2063by the Ten Commandments<\/a> that we find the distinct notion that \n
The \u200bFoundation of the Ten Commandments: Divine Authority and Freedom<\/h2>\n
All men and women are bound to follow such laws under the divine authority of God and \u200dno other being.<\/p>\n
This idea comes\u2064 from the preface \u200dof the Commandments and the first four laws, which \u200care referred to as the First Table of the\u2064 Law.<\/p>\n
The preface, Exodus 20:2<\/a>,\u200c reads, \u201cI \u2064am the Lord \u2062your God, who brought you out\u200b of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.\u201d<\/p>\n
The\u200b first three \u200claws command against worshiping other gods, worshiping other idols and taking God\u2019s\u2062 name\u200c in vain. The fourth orders God\u2019s people to abstain from working on the Sabbath, which is to be kept holy in honor \u2064of Him.<\/p>\n
Many atheists like to point out the supposed \u200buselessness\u2062 of these four laws when they criticize the\u2064 Ten Commandments. While they can see \u200bthe utility of prohibitions on murder and theft, they believe \u200doutlawing blasphemy \u2064is a useless gesture.<\/p>\n
This is missing the point \u200bof the First Table entirely.<\/p>\n
These \u200bfour laws, along with the preface, \u200bserve as the entire foundation on which the \u2062rest of the Commandments are built.<\/p>\n
Without them, everything falls apart.<\/p>\n
God\u2019s Law\u2063 or \u201cCommon Sense?\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\nWhy is this the case? Because these \u200bverses \u2064from Exodus<\/a> establish \u2062God as \u200bthe source of ultimate authority.<\/p>\n
From this flowed many legal concepts.<\/p>\n
Take\u200c the Magna Carta<\/a>, for \u2063instance. The Magna Carta, among other things, asserts that kings are no more above the law\u200b than any other man.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe king \u2062should be under no man, but under God and the law,\u201d the Magna Carta proclaimed.<\/p>\n
This explicitly Christian notion was undoubtedly influenced by the First Table\u2019s \u2064assertion of a monotheistic God with total authority over all.<\/p>\n
In a similar fashion, the concept of universal\/unalienable rights comes from these biblical precepts as well. After all, it asserts that all\u200d men<\/em> are \u2064subject to and protected by the law.<\/p>\n
Those rights can never be taken away by any man or\u2064 government because they come from the only true\u2063 lawgiver, God Himself.<\/p>\n
You can see this influence embedded throughout our founding documents.<\/p>\n
Take the Declaration of Independence<\/a> for example.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe hold these\u2063 truths to be self-evident, that all men are \u200dcreated equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain \u2064unalienable \u200dRights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness,\u201d the declaration stated.<\/p>\n
The founders believed our \u201cunalienable\u201d right to life\u2064 came from God\u2019s<\/em> commandment not to murder.<\/p>\n
They believed in a right to property because God<\/em> \u2062 commanded us not\u2064 to steal from \u200dour fellow man.<\/p>\n
Absent the Ten Commandments<\/a>, neither the Declaration of Independence nor\u200c the Constitution or any other\u200c founding document would have been created.<\/p>\n
American rights as we now\u2063 know them would not exist.<\/p>\n
The \u200cTen Commandments Allow Freedom to Flourish<\/strong><\/h3>\n
Many of us see laws and\u200d rules as limiting forces.\u2063 We think all\u2062 they do \u200cis restrict our \u200cfreedom.<\/p>\n
When it comes \u200cto God\u2019s law, precisely the opposite is true. As\u2062 it says in 1 John 5:3<\/a>, \u201cFor this\u200c is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome\u201d <\/em>[emphasis added].<\/p>\n
God delivered\u2062 the Israelites<\/a> from\u200d Egyptian slavery. But after doing so, His work was far from\u200b over.<\/p>\n
Even after \u2064escaping physical bondage, \u2063He knew \u2063His chosen people were still subject to a greater slavery: The slavery of sin.<\/p>\n
The only way to escape this kind of slavery \u2014 the greatest slavery<\/a> of all \u2014 is to know God and follow Him.<\/p>\n
But how could fallen beings such as us learn to know\u2064 a being with\u200d infinite power and\u2064 goodness?<\/p>\n
That\u2019s what the Ten Commandments are for.<\/p>\n
The\u2063 Ten Commandments aren\u2019t some arbitrary \u2063set \u200dof guidelines. They are a reflection of His holiness.\u200c To follow the Ten Commandments is to know God\u2019s perfect character.<\/p>\n
This is where true freedom lies.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s why James refers to the law as one that \u201cgives freedom.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cBut\u2062 the one\u200c who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who\u2064 forgets but a doer who acts, \u200che will be blessed in \u200bhis\u200b doing,\u201d\u2062 James 1:25<\/a> reads.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s no coincidence that the countries that have provided the\u2064 most freedom in all of\u2064 world history \u2014 the countries of the Western world \u2014 just so happen to also be the ones most influenced by Christian values<\/a>.<\/p>\n
Those countries who rooted their own legal systems in the Law of Liberty \u200bexperienced just that \u2014 liberty \u2014 because following God\u2019s character offers the greatest kind of\u2063 freedom.<\/p>\n
Didn\u2019t Christ\u2019s Death Render the Ten Commandments Moot?<\/h3>\n
Now, it should \u2063be noted \u2062that following the law is not a \u200crequirement for \u2063salvation. All biblically literate Christian men and women understand that they are no longer under<\/em> the law.<\/p>\n
When Christ died\u2064 on the cross, so too did man\u2019s need to follow the law for salvation<\/a>.<\/p>\n
As it says in Romans 7:4-6<\/a>, \u201cLikewise, my brothers, you also have died to the \u2064law through the body of Christ,\u200b so that you may belong to another, to him who has been raised from the dead, in order that we may bear fruit \u2063for God.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor while we were living in the flesh, our sinful passions, aroused by the law,\u2063 were at work in our members\u200b to bear fruit for death. But now we are released.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
\n
The Importance of the Law<\/h2>\n
From the law, having died to that which held us captive, so that we serve \u200cin the new way of \u200cthe \u200cSpirit and not in the old way\u200b of the written code.\u201d<\/p>\n
But the fact that the law is\u2062 no longer necessary for salvation does not mean\u2064 it is no \u2063longer important at all.<\/p>\n
Pastor Doug \u200dWilson makes this quite clear in\u2064 his recently published work \u201c Mere Christendom<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201c\u2026 [T]wo things are \u2062crucial. The first is that Christians who believe the Bible must acknowledge that the death and resurrection of Jesus transformed our applications of biblical law,\u201d Wilson wrote.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut the second is that \u200dour understanding \u200bof this will \u2063never be advanced by denying the essential goodness of the Old Testament law \u2062\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n
The Least in the \u2064Kingdom of Heaven<\/strong><\/h3>\n
The Ten Commandments reflect God\u2019s character; this is just as true today\u2062 as it was\u2063 when they first came down from \u2062Mount Sinai.<\/p>\n
Therefore, an abandonment of the\u200d Ten Commandments \u2062is an abandonment of God\u2019s holiness.<\/p>\n
In His Sermon on the Mount, Jesus<\/a> Himself made it clear that He came not to destroy the\u2063 law, but to fulfill it<\/em>.<\/p>\n
\u201c[W]hoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments \u2063and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom \u2064of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches \u200bthem \u200dwill be called great in the kingdom of heaven,\u201d Jesus said, according to Matthew 5:18-19<\/a>.<\/p>\n
This brings us to the reason for this\u200b series.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s not\u200c just that our increasingly anti-Christian culture<\/a> is actively \u2063subverting the Ten Commandments; it\u2019s that our nation\u2019s leaders are actively \u201cteach[ing] others to do the same.\u201d<\/p>\n
Those who do so are\u2064 \u201cleast in the kingdom of heaven.\u201d<\/p>\n
Our Leaders Have Abdicated Their God-Given Role<\/h3>\n
As the head of\u200c government, President\u2064 Joe Biden is called to use his administration to \u200bact as our God-given civil magistrate.<\/p>\n
In Romans\u200d 13<\/a>, Paul describes the head of\u2062 government as \u201cGod\u2019s \u200cservant for your good\u201d who \u201cdoes not bear the \u2063sword in vain\u201d\u200b but rather as \u201can avenger who carries out God\u2019s wrath on the wrongdoer.\u201d<\/p>\n
In other words, our government has a duty to\u2063 uphold what is right and\u2064 to \u2064punish the wicked who do wrong.<\/p>\n
Now, the\u200c specifics of what exactly that looks like in action are up for debate, including when it comes to the Ten\u200c Commandments. That said, whether you agree \u200bthat the government should enforce all Ten Commandments is irrelevant to the point at hand \u200cwith this series.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s not\u200b that the Biden administration<\/a> refuses to enforce blasphemy laws \u2064or prohibitions on \u2064adultery.<\/p>\n
This column is by no means advocating such action be taken.<\/p>\n
Rather, the point being made in \u2062the articles ahead is that \u2014 through\u2064 both its policies \u2063and rhetoric \u2014 the current administration has taken active steps to encourage <\/em>others to break the Ten \u200bCommandments. We\u2019ll show, unequivocally, \u2062how the Biden\u200b administration has encouraged<\/em> blasphemy, idol worship,\u2063 adultery, murder, theft and\u2064 so on, \u2062and also what consequences such actions have given rise to.<\/p>\n

Jesus<\/a> warned us\u200b that those who\u200b teach others to break His Father\u2019s commandments are \u201cleast in \u200bthe kingdom of heaven.\u201d This is a grave violation that cannot be ignored.<\/p>\n
In the upcoming series, we will hold this administration accountable for their actions. We will demonstrate that the so-called “progress” they claim to achieve only brings forth the fruits of \u2063sin, slavery, and death.<\/p>\n
