Who would ever think \u2064it was the police car involved that\u2019s now back on scene? That is just \u200cnot normal,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>When an \u2062investigator went to Anderson\u2019s home and inspected \u200dhis police car, \u201che recognized the damage that was on the car was consistent with potentially hitting\u200b a pedestrian,\u201d the deputy said.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Arizona \u200ctribal cop accused in fatal hit-and-run after returning \u200bto scene to \u2018investigate\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/iuriM9tPUD\">https:\/\/t.co\/iuriM9tPUD<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/JJACS4nB8a\">pic.twitter.com\/JJACS4nB8a<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 New York Post (@nypost) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nypost\/status\/1729878292319097188?\">November 29, \u200b2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Swanty told AZ Family he found \u200cit amazing that Anderson \u2063reportedly went to \u200bnotify the victim\u2019s next of kin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can\u2019t imagine that scenario there at all,\u201d he said. \u201cNext of kin are probably one \u2063of the\u200c worst assignments to be\u2062 given let alone knowing you had something to do with it, I can\u2019t imagine that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHad he stopped [and] rendered aid like the rest of us would be required to do, we wouldn\u2019t be speaking\u200b today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Anderson was \u200darrested the day after the accident at his home in \u200cWhiteriver\u2064 and immediately resigned from his job as a White Mountain Apache Police\u200d Officer, the sheriff\u2019s report said.<\/p>\n<p>The 20-year\u200d police veteran faces multiple charges, including criminal negligence, reckless driving, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated \u2063assault causing serious \u2062physical injury, interference with an\u200b officer, death caused by a vehicle and leaving the scene of a fatality\u200c collision, the department reported.<\/p>\n<p>The case has been turned over \u200dto the FBI, KSAZ reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is an \u200cextremely sad time for the family of the victim, the men and women at the White Mountain Apache Police Department, and the\u200c White Mountain Apache Tribe,\u201d the sheriff\u2019s department statement\u2063 said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis event is an isolated incident and is not a reflection of the\u2062 fine police officers that serve and \u2064protect the \u200dcitizens of \u2063the White Mountain Apache Reservation every day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The statement extended condolences to the victim\u2019s family and friends.<\/p>\n<p>A GoFundMe appeal set up by Iris Billy\u2019s\u2064 family said she is survived by two boys, ages 9 and \u200c10.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey still needed her. She was the sole\u2062 parent, she was just everything to them,\u201d Billy\u2019s sister, \u200bPhylene Burnette, told AZ Family.
