Joe Lieberman \u2014 formerly Al Gore\u2019s running mate \u2014 was insufficiently lefty, challenged him in the Democratic primary.\u2064 (Lamont won\u200c the primary, although Lieberman prevailed by\u200c running as an independent in \u200bthe general \u2063election.)<\/p>\n<p>In office, he\u2019s been along for the ride during\u200d the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/dystopian-vaccine-passport-programs-meet-pushback-states-give-green-light\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Northeast\u2019s<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/numbers-dont-lie-poll-shows-gop-governors-massively-outperforming-democrat-peers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">leftward<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-connecticut-governor-poised-sign-states-sweeping-gun-measure-since-post-sandy-hook-laws\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">drift<\/a> in the 21st century. This included regulations to, as local publication <a href=\"https:\/\/ctnewsjunkie.com\/2023\/11\/28\/despite-setback-proponents-of-phasing-out-gas-powered-vehicles-vow-to-prioritize-the-proposal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Connecticut News Junkie<\/a> noted, \u201cincrementally phase\u200b out \u2063the sale of new gas-powered vehicles\u201d by the\u2063 magical date of 2035, when everyone seems to believe ICE cars can\u200d stop being \u2062sold.<\/p>\n<p>However,\u200d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wtnh.com\/news\/connecticut\/gov-ned-lamont-pulls-plan-to-ban-gas-car-sales-by-2035-sources\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WTNH-TV<\/a>, Gov. Lamont announced he was withdrawing the ban\u200c proposal on\u2063 Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Legislative Regulation\u200d Review Committee, which is made up of 14 lawmakers was set to have a hearing and vote on \u2062Tuesday regarding the ban on the sale of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/3-recent-failures-of-green-energy-policies\/\" title=\"3 Recent Failures of Green Energy Policies\">gas-powered cars<\/a> \u2063in 2035,\u201d the Hartford-based station reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn Monday afternoon, legislative sources told News 8 \u200cthat the committee would hold off on the scheduled vote.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The move was\u2064 celebrated as a victory for\u2062 \u201ccommon sense\u201d \u200dby legislative Republicans.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Senate Republican Leader Kevin Kelly<\/strong> said that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/connecticut-judge-overturns-election-results-shocking-videos-surface\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lamont\u2019s<\/a> \u201cdecision to withdraw the regulations is \u2063a reasoned\u2062 approach to address\u200c the growing concerns raised \u2064by working and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/living-through-a-socialist-collapse-an-insiders-account-of-venezuelas-demise\/\" title=\"Living Through A Socialist Collapse: An Insider\u2019s Account Of Venezuela\u2019s Demise\">middle class families<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCommon sense\u200c has prevailed,\u201d \u200che said. \u201cAdopting California emission \u2064standards which ban the sale \u2062of gas-powered cars\u2063 is \u200ca substantial policy shift which\u200b must\u200d be decided by the General Assembly,\u201d\u2064 he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2062 are too many questions regarding the capacity of our electric\u2063 grid, the cost and location of grid\u200c improvements, and the negative impact on urban,\u2062 rural and working poor families.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Senate Republicans \u200bon the\u2063 legislature\u2019s Regulation\u2063 Review\u2064 Committee today issued the following statement regarding the Governor\u2019s withdrawal of proposed regulations requiring all new vehicles sold in Connecticut to be electric. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/909NHhTS3z\">pic.twitter.com\/909NHhTS3z<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Kevin Kelly (@21KevinKelly) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/21KevinKelly\/status\/1729352475302355062?\">November 28, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Sen. John A. Kissel, the GOP co-chair of the panel, called the decision to abandon\u2063 the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/toyota-president-rains-newsoms-parade-delivers-bad-news-2035-deadline-gas-car-ban\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EV timeline<\/a> a \u201cprudent step.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe people\u2019s elected representatives are \u200cthe ones\u2063 who \u2062should \u200dbe making this decision,\u201d Kissel said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSomething so life-changing \u2014\u2064 something that will take our choice away \u2014 needs to be\u2064 decided \u200dby the \u2063full\u200d legislature. Ask anyone on Main Street anywhere in Connecticut\u2062 those questions.\u2064 They will they you that they \u2014 the people \u2014 should get to decide.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt should be the people\u2019s choice,\u201d he concluded. \u201cI thank my colleagues\u2064 on the\u2063 committee \u2014 and the \u200cgovernor \u2014 for withdrawing these regulations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lamont isn\u2019t throwing in the towel yet, however, promising to try again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI really look \u2062forward to working with our friends in\u200d the legislature,\u201d Lamont said after abandoning the push, realizing it lacked sufficient\u200b support in the legislature\u2019s Regulation Review Committee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019ve been\u2064 amazing. You took the lead on this before, you\u2019re taking the \u200clead on it again. Reach across the aisle, see if we can satisfy some of the naysayers, get them on board,\u201d Lamont\u2063 said.<\/p>\n<p>The problem is that the idea of \u200bgetting people \u201con board\u201d with EVs seems to have hit a wall.<\/p>\n<p>After early adopters snapped up the first wave of EVs from mainstream auto companies, consumers\u2063 seemed\u200c to be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/car-dealers-coming-big-realization-evs-lot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">generally uninterested<\/a> in the supposedly eco-friendly models carmakers \u2062were pushing.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier\u200d this month, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/business\/autos\/ev-makers-turn-to-discounts-to-combat-waning-demand-3aa77535\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Wall Street Journal<\/a> reported that, given that \u201csales growth has\u200c slowed\u200b for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/surge-in-battery-prices-squeezes-ev-makers\/\" title=\"Surge in Battery Prices Squeezes EV Makers\">battery-powered models<\/a>,\u201d dealers were slashing prices with discounts on \u2064EVs, with \u2064Ford and\u200d Hyundai offering\u2062 up to $7,500 rebates on \u200dcars that \u200dwere previously flying off lots.<\/p>\n<p>Even <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/tesla-quietly-deletes-clause-cybertruck-sales-contract-backlash-internet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tesla<\/a>, the Journal reported, had \u201cslashed prices\u201d due to waning demand.<\/p>\n<p>The 2035 date was always an unrealistic deadline randomly picked somewhere in the not-too-distant future by Democrats as an \u2064opportunity to switch everyone to\u2063 battery cars. To the extent it wasn\u2019t random and based in \u2064reality, it was based on an adoption rate roughly similar to the\u2063 curve of early adoption.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s not how\u200b it works. That\u2019s never been how it works. A recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eenews.net\/stories\/1064130695\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a> \u2064by the New England Independent System Operator (ISO) warned that the electric grid \u200din the region may not be able \u2062to\u200d handle \u200cthe increased demand for \u200celectricity \u2064from \u2064EVs without significant investments in grid infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the\u200b push for\u2063 EVs has been met with\u200c skepticism from rural and urban communities alike. Rural \u2064areas often\u200c lack the necessary \u2063infrastructure for \u200dcharging stations, making \u2062EVs \u2063impractical for residents in those areas. \u2062Urban communities, on \u200cthe other hand, are \u200bconcerned about the negative\u2064 impact of \u2064EVs on air quality, \u2064as the production of electricity for charging EVs \u2063still relies heavily on fossil fuels.<\/p>\n<p>Despite these challenges, proponents of electric vehicles remain hopeful and determined.
